With a lot of hard work, a little luck, and a ton of prayer, it will all work out. I do appreciate your advice, and hope my last comments didn't come off as some sort of weird type of passive aggressive post.

You better think about this carefully, your truck GVW governs how much you can take, not the plate.

Correct. That was never the issue. It was more so having to deal with one person telling me that I would have to pull trip permits for every state that I would be travelling through, as opposed to just having a commercial plate and being able to run without having to pull those permits. Thanks.

A shipper would never lie on the weight...
Saw a float last week with a basket on it.
Neck of trailer broke off when he came to a stop light.
Wrecker picked up the basket and his truck gauge said 23 k
Shipper said it was 12 k Beware

Pretty sure every state is going after a fuel tax.

I drove a bobtail style satellite truck from L.A. to Nebraska and every port had the handout asking for money.

I retired from OTR,but I'm driving Hotshot with just my pickup truck now.
There's some good paying jobs for smaller trucks if you can find them.Just keep it under 26,000 lbs and you'll be good.

Standard commercial plate is valid evrywhere under 26,000# but there are still Hours of Service for a non CDL but it is based on a 150 air mile radius with the unit returning to it's starting point and OP says he wants to be OTR.

Under 26000# does not require a fuel sticker/IFTA or an IRP registration but it does need New York HUT and I would think the new HUT in Connecticut.

Over 10,000# still needs to maintain a medical but is not included in the 'database' with CDL guys and is not in any CDl random drug testing pool.

Great information. Most appreciated. I am familiar with the HOS rules and have an ELD in my truck with backup paper logs. I also have my HUT stickers for NY but was not aware of CT, thank you. I recently got a new 2 year medical card, and understand I do not need to register or worry about the clearinghouses/consortiums. Thanks again for the good information.

CT is only for 26,000 lbs and above GVW, if you are registered and the sticker on the truck reads 25,999 lbs you will not need to register for CT.
