Great Posts and thread JohnBoy. I find the info here valuable. I'll be starting Refer with Roehl come this Monday. I assume Roehl isn't like your company but still I enjoy your well written posts.

    Hope to read more.

    Take care.

    Johnboy,
Sounds like your doing real good out there, and you are happy with the company.
I just got home from a run up to NC, over to Laredo, back to NC, and home for the weekend. What you say is the truth, you can make money out on the road, just watch your spending, and Keep that left door closed.

Have a good Easter with your family,

    Larry

Sorry buddy, after 2+ weeks gone all I had on my mind was the house. Yes I did deliver to Family Dollar. I wrote your truck number in my little book, so the next time I'm up your way I'll keep an eye out.

Well I got my new dispatch late yesterday. I need to p/u a loaded trailer at one of our customers in Griffin GA. I've done this load once before. It has 1 drop in Florence NJ then finals in Mountain Top PA, then it's off to the terminal in Pittston. Happy Easter all. I'll be home until early Monday morning.

    Johnboy,
Hope you are having good hometime and a great Easter. I am working for a guy who is starting a trucking company. One truck, one driver. We make cable for the TV industry. The factory is in Greenville, NC. Ware house is down here in Deerfield Beach. Monday I am going with the boss to buy two more trucks. He bought two trailers last week. All I do is haul our own product, which I like very much. I will take a load to Brownsville to export to Mexico, shoot over to Laredo to pick up raw materials, and take them to the factory in NC. I agreed to work for salary, and of course he pays any truck expense, even paper towels. They are really nice people to work for, and even the folks in NC have been really great. Its hard to imagine not waiting around at shippers and receivers all the time. This could even be fun.
I saw a CALEX truck at a TA, I went over to the driver to see if it was you, of course you know it wasn't.
Anyway, have a good trip up North, and take care..........Safe miles,
    Larry

Well after our Easter company left last night I packed all my food and essentials up and took them to my truck. I figured I'd get everything ready to leave last night so I didn't have to bother with it this morning. I got back home and my wife was just finishing up with the cleaning so we sat down and watched Sunday night baseball. From the moment I sat down it hit me, the worst case of a virus I ever had. Without going into detail I was heaving and gagging all night. I saw every 45 minutes on the clock starting at 11:00 right through 2pm today. I called into dispatch right at 8am to let them know what was going on and they said to feel better and to call them in the morning. So here I sit, steps from my bathroom hoping this will end soon. This virus has me wondering what I did wrong to get treated like this.....lol.

Ok, time for an update. After getting sick Sunday night and still being sick, though on the road to recovery, I was given a load to p/u in Griffin GA last night for a load going to Maspeth, Queens. Well in this wonderful world of trucking nothing ever seems to work out the way it's planned. I went to my truck yesterday morning to start it up and guess what? She said no way. After a call into the shop they sent out a road service truck to jump start me. Well that didn't work, it seems there was more to it then just a jump. After an hour of trying to figure out what the problem was they decided that the starter went bad. Ok, 4 bolts and a few wires and it should be done right? Nope. I had to be towed from my parking spot to the Volvo dealer 5 miles away. $865 later it was at Volvo getting looked at. The cause? A fuse that controls the electrical surge of the starter blew and wouldn't allow the starter to turn over. You have to give todays technology credit, the fuse cost $4.98 and couldn't be diagnosed unless in a Volvo dealership, so instead let's design these trucks to be towed for the littlest issue. Oh yeah, my truck got there at 2:15, they closed at 5 and didn't work on the 1 hour job until this morning. So here I sit at the house still, with a call into dispatch to get me rolling. I'm quite sure I'll have a nice load to baby sit all weekend, but at least I'll be empty first thing Monday for a load going west. Be safe all, God Bless!

Things have just been going too well for you at Calex John - something had to give brother...and when it did, boy did it! But between the illness and the truck (fuse?) problems - the silver lining is that it happened close to home eh? Nothing worse than being on the road with these 2 issues - both you and your truck sick. Get well fast my friend.

Just an update on my end - as I'm not as inclined to post here as is John, but I wanted to share that things here at Calex have been positive overall - I too live in central Florida, and until the last 2 weeks I've been getting home pretty much every weekend, which is important to me because I have a beautiful wife and 4 young children (13 years old down to the baby who just turned 2 in Feb). So home time's been key - but the trade off is the limited miles just going up and down 95 for the most part.

So it was a nice change when my dispatcher Louie (a good man whom I like a lot) decided 2 weeks ago to send John and I to the west coast - From PA to Las Vegas, then 1.5 days stuck in Vegas for a 34 hour restart (I got a chance to break even gambling while there, which is great because I needed the money), and down to the Imperial Valley of California for 2 pickups, and 2 more in Yuma AZ for produce coming back to Milton PA. It was fun, and I really like running west.

By the way, while in Vegas I was going into a casino, and a guy came up to me and said, "Pal, can you help me out? I need money for my wife's operation desperately!" I said, "Yeah, but I how do I know if I give you money that you won't just go in and gamble it at the casino?" He looked at me and said, "No, you don't understand...I HAVE plenty of gambling money!"

Anyway, my truck's in the shop getting serviced today/tonight, so I'm at the local motel here in Pittston, and as usual the company's nice enough to pick up the tab. Louie my dispatcher, after initially telling me this morning that I'd be going back to Florida tomorrow, called me about 2:30pm and said COP. I said COP? What, are the fuzz outside my door here at the motel? He laughed and said, "No, Change Of Plans...I think I'm gonna send you west after all tomorrow - we're getting busy out there again". I said great, thanks alot, and you'll never have to explain to me COP again, ok? :biggrin_2559:

So I'll find out for sure tomorrow when I get back to the yard - but either I'll go back to Cali for the great miles, or to FL to see the family. It's a win/win, and that's why I like it so much here at Calex. Jim and Mort in Safety have been great to me as well, and the owner, Mr. Grimes, knows me by name and tells me to call him Tommy, which believe me is hard for me to do. I'm used to saying "sir" everywhere else I've been. If you live at one end or the other of their freight lanes (PA to TN or central FL or California, among other places), consider Calex. In the crazy world of trucking, after 6 months here I can say that they are kind of a quiet oasis in the stormy seas of transportation.

Again, get well soon Johnny and can't wait til we can run again together out west pal. God bless you all...
