Some companies like Groendyke are specking all their new trucks and trailers with super singles.
Why I have no idea, seems they are always late to the game anyway.
Not only do you have to replace a tire but also a wheel, not to mention the damage to the equipment.

I had a drive tire blow and took out not only the tire but both air lines as well......in a 2 way construction zone. Good times....

Looks like yours had a inflation system on the trailer? that did a lot of good.

Yeah, I actually work for a 5 truck owner that is leased on with the company. Tractors are ours trailers are theirs and their specs but yes it has Central Tire Inflation system. No warning lights or anything prior. Just BOOM! then sparks fly as fender and rim drag on the pavement

    JoeyJunk Thanks this.

On top of it, tire outfit brought out wrong offset rim with new tire so now it sets inboard of front axle. Not a big deal but looks goofy

Saying the customer is upset didn’t really answer what I asked. Obviously they see a benefit to them for one reason or another regardless of how the people pulling them feel. Perhaps you can approach the owner of the trailer and get his thoughts on switching the entire fleet to duals because you blew a tire and damaged the trailer.

Don’t really care that much. Their trailer, their customer, their rules. Not my job to figure out if wide base singles are cost effective enough to justify them. That’s why they have a fleet manager. I’m just glad I have the ability to put the receiver on ignore so he stops blowing up my phone. They can blow up dispatchers phone. Then I can put him on ignore to when he starts calling me. I’ll take ‘‘em off ignore when repairs are complete
