    Getting into orientation :biggrin_2551:

I orifinally talked to a recruiter in late Jan. She told me Swift would take me on with no recent exp., based on past exp., but I would have to go out with a Mentor for 6 weeks. Ok, that's fine (and fair). She then gave me a tentative Feb. 15 date, then cancelled that a few days later. It kept getting moved, and by mid Feb it was tentatively March 8th. In late Feb, I emailed her (trying to get her on the phone is next to impossible, and she almost never calls me back after saying she will) and asked to if it could be Mar. 15th or 23rd, to give me time to take care of some family stuff in Ohio. She did reply "No problem" but said Mar. 8th was out anyway, and to call her when I was ready.

I started (trying) to call her around Mar. 8th, and since then, keep getting tentative dates, again. Now we are up to April 19th. She told me that the reason for the tentative dates is because there is such a push for 'company' drivers. I asked what that meant, and finally got that she meant van drivers. So I guess flatbed gets short shifted. I realize that there aren't as many fb Mentors, but I'm getting the feeling that the recruiters aren't as concerned with getting fb drivers on.

Anyway, on a whim, I called the Greer terminal this AM. Spoke to a young woman who gave me the name of a person to call on Monday, who may be able to help out. I'll keep my fingers crossed.:biggrin_25514:

Anyone else have this sort of issue with getting into orientation?

Jim, Im not going into flatbed division, but I did "graduate" Swifts academy in San Antonio on the 25th of March. I was told by my recruiter before I started the academy that Lancaster held orientation every week, however upon graduation, was told they were only every two weeks now, so Im going on the 6th of April.
Another guy was from ATL, he left for his 20 something hr bus ride back to Atl, and was scheduled for orientation that next Tuesday, the 30th. Seems like it just depends on what terminal your going to run out of? dunnoo......BigT

I think location does have something to do with it, but also a shortage of mentors right now.

Lately Greer has been running orientaion most every week also. I have a cousin that runs flatbed and they do seem to be a litttle slower than normal for about the last three months. But, that should not matter when it comes to snagging you a mentor. To qualify for flatbed you will only have to do two weeks on a flatbed mentors truck, the other four can be done as a door slammer. Maybe they are having issues getting you set up for the securement training which is Thurs and Fri after orientation. They try to keep those classes to four people max.
