I know in Tejas you have to start over again, and with the new law passed you now have to start over again and test with a school. No more just showing up in a truck and testing on your own.

Really, then what about the O.O.? If i had my own truck, im testing with my truck. There is a NEW law now that requires you to join a Trucking School, to obtain a CDL? I must have been under a rock, i never heard this, thanks

Yes sir. Been on the books for close to two years now. No more dad teaches son how to drive and takes son to test in dads truck. Those good ole days are over. Sucks for our kids on the farm. They now have to pay the big bucks to go to a dot “approved and accredited” school.

It's a state issue. In my state. Not NJ, if your CDL is lapsed/downgraded for 5 years or more, you start over at CLP, school, endorsements, etc. If it is lapsed/downgraded 4 years & 364 days or less you submit a fresh medical & are reinstated.

You probably won't have to pay for cdl school. New Jersey WIOA Program pays for cdl school at no cost to you.
    `
There's also trucking company cdl schools that are free to you if you agree to work for the company for 12 mos.
    Here's one in New Jersey:

I was recently told by my state DMV that you have 1 year from the date your medical card expired.
Produce a current medical card and CDL will be reinstated.
After 1 year start the process all over. $$$$$

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Yeah, but now won't have to listen to all the bull-crap on the CB radio about how stupid these new drivers are because they went to cdl school. I had some of that directed at me when I started and resented it. I went to cdl school because that's the way I wanted to learn; not learn from some clown that all he talks about is how everyone is out to get him.

Theirs the keys go pick the trailer up and bring it back.
That was my training early 70's.
Took my DMV driving test in my pickup.
Only time I ever took a paper test was to get my DL at 16.
I was grandfathered in on everything until Haz-mat endorsement came around my second test on paper.
Today its all about how much money they can squeeze out of your walle
