Thanks for the reply. The best one I have is a front shot but should give you an idea of what you are looking for I hope? It's filled in quite nicely. I'm assuming I'm seeing the same thing you are refering to? I have to pickup the truck tomorrow. I'll be out of reach until I get home in two days. I'll can post more pics if you need? Please let me know. Or, pm me your email and I will email you the pics at that time.
Hope this helps.

thanks! it looks like an air tank but its not really is it?
-
It does not appear to be.
-
the pulse while driving is the engine doing an active regen, this is normal, it is just taking advantage of the already high exhaust temp to burn off a little soot.
-
Thanks. Apparently, it regens constantly as it never seems to quit. This too is normal?

My truck has the 625 c-15 and i have the same problem with pulsing at highway speeds. Took it to warren cat for them to check it out and they said there was no problem. So far its got 418,000 miles with the only problem is the way it eats starters. Have it checked out though if you can, the way these new computer controlled motors are im scared to mess with em too much. I miss my 3406b...hell that was 15 years ago though, maybe i should just get used to the new.

Thanks for the reply.
Here was the repair taken directly from the printout from Cat which has NOT fixed anything. Again, this is spuratic and sometimes will go several miles without incident. The surging is random and happens upon first startup of the day after sitting overnight. Sometimes it doesn't occur at all:
Test drive with laptop hooked up. VVA test showed #6 not ok. Adjusted valves, VVA and jakes, found #6, #5, #4 tight. Test run VVA still came back #6 not ok. ECM had no faults logged or active until you did the test. Cylinder cut out test came back ok. Engine would regen ok. Fuel pressure was good. Engine sounded good when it was running except when VVA test cut out #6. Then it would surge and was not as strong as the rest. All the other VVA's worked good.
Moved #5/6 actuator housing to cylinder #3/4 and move #3/4 to #5/6. Ran actuation test and problem moved with actuator housing. Moved #3/4 back replaced #5/6 actuator. Test ran truck and check engine light did not come on.
What do I do now?Last edited: Apr 3, 2010

If you cruise control switch is in the "on" position, even if you are not using cruise control, the jakes will not turn on until you hit the service brakes. If you turn the switch off, they will work when you release the accelerator. Paccar does that.
-
Thanks. Had Cat reprogram to activate when accelerator is released. There are many options as to when/how the jakes activate.

I know Kenworths come that way with the cruise switch. Our drivers used to thing something was wrong with their trucks, always had the cruise switch on 24/7.
