Thanks for the kind words. I don't know why my words seemed like a search for sympathy, but I was simply looking for advice, not sympathy. I, like everyone else, need money and I was looking for a way not to lose money in this case. In general, I got off easily with a small amount, which could have been many times larger. I don't have my own equipment right now. I've already sold a trailer and am currently selling two pickup trucks, and then my wife and I will probably get a job. I think it's for the best, my truck was very old and even though I spent three times what it is worth now, this truck is still old.

So did your driver damage anyone else vehicles or injure people? If no then pay the city for damages and move on.

if another person was involved and or vehicle, your going to get sued.

Hell according to US laws, you’re going to get sued, the bank that financed your vehicle is getting sued, the tire manufacturer, truck manufacturer. Even your neighbor.

welcome to doing business in the US.

Its worth noting that the other party can have a couple years to file a lawsuit as well. Actual time limit depends on jurisdiction of course.

You might think you're in the clear but then 18-24 months down the road you're handed some paperwork by a process server.

Thank God, only our car and the road were damaged in this accident. The driver escaped with a slight fright and I suffered minor losses. After some negotiations, the insurance company agreed to pay for the road repairs. They took into account that I asked the insurance agent several times to add the driver to our insurance. By the way, at first the agent told me that this driver had a clean record, but after the accident, another Progressive employee told me that this driver had already had an accident. Thanks to everyone who gave me useful advice. Progressive is not the worst insurance company on the market.
