Location, location, location. Where I live places like that are a huge commute or don't pay all that well
right now, finding something that pays close to what I am making here is tough. I have been holding off making any kind of jump until things smooth out in the economy. I have even floated the thought of just going bankrupt and getting rid of everything other than the house, our cells, and general living expenses and just working at a normal job and telling the trucking industry as a whole to #### off.

Welcome to ltl flatbed, that’s why we get paid extra, it’s not for everyone. Sitting at the customer for over 2 hours, you could have done a split break and paused your 14. Follow that up with a 7/8 in the sleeper, even if you take 10+ off and everything would have been “legal”.
samsara works nearly perfectly on my phone. The only thing that doesn’t work is geofencing. They also pay $30 for your phone every month.
best of luck.autopaint, The Block Robert, Lonesome and 2 others Thank this. -
Maybe put you big boy pants on and just do the job. I do things where I work that suck , and sometimes they're easy. If it where all fun and easy it would be a hobby not a job. Sorry you got the short straw this time , next load will hopefully be better.

I do plenty of less desirable tasks at this job, I just don't post everything, so that tells you how much more goes wrong. Flatbed is full of times that make you wonder why you chose it. I guess my rant about this load is me blowing off steam about an issue with this company. The over all lack of communication between Op's and the drivers is horrific at best. And I don't know why that surprises me, that has been an area that has always been an issue here, even before we were stuck with Wylie. Which is odd considering how many of the people in Ops are former drivers. My DM and I talked yesterday, he said I wasn't the only one getting screwed up loads. Another one of his drivers was sent in to pick up a load in a conestoga. When he got there he was informed that the load was 105" wide. He had to leave because there is no way a 105 wide will fit under a 102" conestoga. When the salesman called my DM about why his driver didn't get loaded he had to get pissy because the guy didn't understand why it wouldn't fit.
When I spoke to the lady in recruiting, she was told they bumped the tarp pay up to $75 in early March, but management never said a word to anyone, not the drivers, not the Op's and not even the recruiting department.
This whole delay was caused by one thing. The shipper added 1 more piece to the load and had to wait on an updated b/l. They told Arlington they were adding a 3rd piece, but again, nobody said a word to my DM or me, which made things interesting because my final pickup was 6' wide and 25 1/2 feet long. Fortunately the added piece wasn't too wide and we played Tetris at the 3rd pickup and fit it all on deck.dwells40, Lonesome, kylefitzy and 1 other person Thank this. -
What threw me off the most about the original complaint on this load is how your DM recognized you were out 3 weeks and then asks why you’re going home so soon? I know you’re a road warrior, but dang have some decency and treat a man like a human, that’s 3 weeks away from your wife, your family, I presume grandkids. That comment from him wouldn’t sit right with me and I don’t even work there. Safe travels.

Flatbed seems to be more work than it’s worth from what i’ve read. I’ve seen a lot more of our flatbed trucks pulling vans than flatbeds, so our flatbed stuff must have slowed down, so that’s a way to keep them rolling and make money. I don’t know how well flatbed pays but on an average week, I gross about $1700-$2000 pulling a dry van around

It’s also about what you enjoy, sitting at docks having idiotic delivery appointments isn’t for everyone, just like tarpping isn’t every truck drivers cup of tea.
Personally I wouldn’t ever touch dry van on a permanent basis, and many other open deckers are the same. Cool that you are doing well at dry van, hopefully your freight will stay solid and you’ll be able to keep rolling strong.runningman0661, Lonesome, kylefitzy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Interesting week to say the least.

reefer freight has all those idiotic delivery dates, dry van really doesn’t, or at least not at my company. i have zero idea why people would continue hauling a reefer around with all the bs that you have to deal with hauling it. But as you say i guess some people enjoy itWinnyf1 Thanks this.
