I was going to say...these sound like places or parts of town I would probably cross off my list of places to ever stop at again anyway if I'd accidently wandered into them. Generally speaking joints that have a bunch of dumb junior high school level rules for appearance and conduct means there are a lot of knuckleheads and troublemakers who hang out there acting like they're still in junior high school.

 

Why are so many replies assuming the no hat rule is because some teenager or his boss wants everyone to look like an Eagle Scout on a church picnic and not because 9 of the last 10 robbers won't ever be caught because the security cameras can't see his face?

 

Ha ha ha, no acually, Hoody and Face mask, just watch the news, Everyone of the crooks are wearing hoodies, and face mask. It is what it is. No stereo type, just look at the NEWS, ha ha ha

Back n the days of knights hats (helmets) were taken off indoors as a sign of respect.

Currently it is a sign of respect to take hats off for grub time.

Obviously at a movie house, who wants to sit behind the jerk in the hat?

At work indoors and at people's houses shows you're comfortable and plan on staying a while.

Military, covers off without question indoors.

Basically, hats off indoors equal a gentleman, hats off means a hicismus scallywag rapscallion.

 

When parts of society switch from high-trust to high-crime there are many other changes.
The truck stop can make a hat rule and people can use other truck stops if they don't like it. How would you feel if the plumber that comes to your house told you he didn't have to take his work boots off outside, if that was the rule at your home?
