Their "Task Force" has been almost a year now. Doesn't seem like they have made any progress.

Ok. So there is a 1 year old govt effort to look at some contracts and it's the FMCSA & DOTs fault a clueless driver or O-O signs a bad contract? Assuming you are older than 12 how many successful govt programs have given you confidence in this contract task force? Why is an endless supply of govt program failure not reason enough to doubt this govt program. We don't have more & more silly warning signs on more & more of life because people heed warnings. We've been trying to bubble wrap people from any consequence for so long now people see any consequence as the responsibility of the govt. Not even the govt (if it wasn't corrupt, inept, well-meaning, etc) could have enough info to now become every careless driver's contract attorney.

Not only is there not enough money in 10 Universes to pay for every govt program that might protect more than 1 person or reduce the bad effect on them, we should not try that approach because of the damage that causes on people not a party to the contract. How would you feel going bankrupt or becoming homeless due to effects of govt shufgling the economy so that some recent arrival in the country could sign a less harmful contract with Reckless & Dangerous Express?

If someone won't bother to even try to protect themself the whole govt can't protect him from walking into traffic. A govt big enough to protect you from everything is indistinguishable from a prison. It's been tried and it always leads to mass death or prison camps and national collapse. 100 million dead bodies in 20th Century alone. No thanks. It's an evil plan and nobody has an excuse to not know that.

That was a sarcastic response by me about the task force. And the people involved with it.
And I have little/zero pity for those that fall for these scams. They all think they can get something for nothing.

Thank you for your comment. I don't read people very well. I get mad at ideas but I forget there are people involved. My apologies.

If you work for 1099 make sure you have a good tax person that knows a thing or two about trucking. Otherwise you’ll cry when the tax season comes. Also make sure to have a basic contract that employer will sign. (You pay for own uniform, can take time off when you want and for as much as you want etc) good luck. 1099 isn’t for everyone. You need to stay on top of your stuff if you want to make good money.

I was referring more to the running of multiple DOT numbers. As far as him getting himself into that position, that's all on him, but his circumstances may have been that this was the best thing for him at the moment. These fines they are trying to impose...laughable.

If you have to ask after that ( you might be a 1099 contractor)
