Hello Everyone, Having arrived here from Ireland in May 06 and finaly slowly but surly getting into the American way of life, I have decided to continue my career in trucking! I was a driver traveling threw europe for 15years before comming back to the USA, my wife of 5years who is US born wanted to be near her elderly parents in case things happend, so we decided to come back. I have found this site very intresting in the way it discuses the trucking world and have been impressed by the honest answers you have placed back here, I am now in the market for your opinion on what companys realy do match up to there advertizments of a new truck driving job? I know wages will be low but do you thing my years in europe will count here? And what problems would I be getting into, please be honest in your replys and I hope to see some of you out on the road. Many Thanks:) (I have all my work papers)

Welcome aboard Irish.I would think your European experience would count over here.I drive for Roehl and am satisfied with them.I am sure there are other good companies out there who would be glad to hire you.Give Roehl a call and see what they have to say.I am sure others will chime in here with reccomendations.

    Welcome to the forum!!!
Not only Your great experience should be counted but what an honor for a good company to get a driver with so many years of international driving!!
You might have to adjust to different equipment (were You driving single axle cabover,Reno,Mersedes,Tatra ??).

Hi, All european trucks are cabovers, I've been Volvo FH16 which is the 16ltr engine also Mercedes V8, Scania V8 both with 500+hp and DAF 500hp all have been great trucks, and i've hauled flats, refers, box and soft sides so I'm a bit of and old shoe!

Your right in the crossover to your way of things, it's illegal to run for cents per mile over there, we are all payed a wage, my last job was on refeers and I was taking home $1100 a week.

Would be grateful for as much info about the job as you can give and if I should stay local, or otr for the first few months.
    Many Thanks.

No! there are so many it is hard to chose? it's just trying to find someone that understands that I need time to learn the road system.

I might go onto the container work or refeers, but either way I am looking forward to the chalenge. Thanks

I live in New York City 5 years. Not many companies are based here.
In New Jersey there is a lot of container jobs, but trucks are poor and old(unless its a big company).

Check "report good/bad company" section.A lot of info!!!

Well my company is darn good, Deboer Transportation, I'm very happy with my treatment. There are lots of good companies out there but lots of bad ones too. Best of luck.
