Well week two is done, we are out for good friday tommorrow. supposed to start shifting monday, seems to be going slow but the training is very good. Happy easter too you all. be safe.

Happy Easter everyone. I have spent the weekend looking at trucking companies and filling out applications. So far I have aps in with US Express, Werner,Trans Am, Schnieder, May, and Swift. I plan on putting as many aps in as I can, but hope to get on with one of the better starter outfits. I talked with a US Express driver the other day at the truckstop who was very unhappy with them, a little discouraging.
I had thought they were one of the better outfits. but i will continue my research i have 6 weeks before i get out of school anyway. I am eager to go back to school tommorrow, we are supposed to start shifting and get out on the road this week. Well I hope everyone enjoys there Easter whereever you might be.
JustSonny and kickin chicken Thank this. -
HAPPY EASTER EVERYBODY!!! my instuctors at sage say good thing's about us express. What was the driver's problem bebop? Yesterday was my 4th driving session and all went ok. There where a few shifting issues. WE mostly did highway and back road driving wich is ok, but i need to shift better. Upshifting to 9th alway's seems to grind a little alsoand downshifting to 5th before a right turn is problematic. I have 1 more driving session in the morning and test tuesday. Hope i can get it under control. The instructors are great and very informative, with plenty of patience with the other student's that are having trouble.

jas, his major complaint was that they cut the maintenance force by 1/2 and said it takes up to 4 days to get minor repairs done, that and that they were/had cut out alot of their incentive progeams. I think that is the norm however for all companies that wish to weather this economy, and not just trucking companies. I am going to take it with a "grain of salt" and keep talking to drivers when I can. Who knows he may have been having a bad day. Good luck to you i am off to start week 3 of my adventure.

Well first day of shifting was an adventure, It went well for me. I don't think that i had mentioned that I have driven otr before back in the early 90's, so it is not completely new for me. I reqally enjoyed getting back behind the wheel and running through the gears again. Some of the equipment is a little rough but still tremendously better than what i drove back then. We have one student that had never been in a truck before and it has been somewhat of a struggle for him, but i believe he will do ok.

Well week 3 is in the books, it has gone pretty well. I aced my test today. We have been driving out in the streets learning how to shift up and down most of the week also have been doing some backing, i have my straight line down pat and the offset is good enough to pass the test but i want to improve it a little. We had the safety man from howard trucking come in and talked to us today. they sound like a good company to get on with, if they are anything like what we were told i think It would be a company that i would like to stay with, to me that would be so much better than 95% of the starter outfits that most people do a year or so with and move on, or don't make it at all. Hey Older you might look into them if you haven't already they are down not to far from your neck of the woods, they are out of laurel, ms. well next week we get out on the big road for some distance driving and start on parallel parking ye haw lol. Y'all have a great weekend.

Oh yea, I almost forgot I got call backs from Schnieder and Willis Shaw this week as well.

Well I am halfway through school today. It is going very well so far, I have a 99 average on my written tests, and am doing very good with my backing and road driving as well. I have pre hires from KLLM, Willis Shaw, and Schnieder so far. I have been turned down by Werner {probably a good thing] and US Express. We have talked with recruiters from TMC, Werner, Averitt [ they can not hire until we have 1 year exp.], and Howard. I am hopeing to hear from Howard next week. I hope everyone has a good weekend.
JustSonny Thanks this.
