Well all I have to say is, "I got my night gown on, I got my purty red panties on & I'm going to bed." :biggrin_25522:

Hooray, hooray for the bad old days. And people think carriers are bad today. How about back in the day when your dispatcher honestly believed getting that load through was worth the driver's life? My favorite phrase from dispatch..."Do the best you can." Translation--"Get there on time, or find another job after we destroy your DAC and finish your career, ya worthless peice of crap truckerer driverer!"

How could you identify an old hand back in the day? By the burn marks on their hands from the cigars they kept, whether they smoked or not, to wake them up when they fell asleep behind the wheel. Whether we want to admit it or not, there have been attempts to make trucking safer for both the drivers, and the general public. I don't know if these attempts have been successful or not, but I can tell you from personal experience that logbooks are just about completely useless in forcing a driver to stay within the Hours of Service regulations. We know it, DOT knows it, the carriers know it, and the dock monkeys know it. Everyone in this industry expects, and in some cases out and out demands that the drivers lie on their logbooks for the profit and convenience of every one except the driver. Sadly, I'm starting to believe that the EOBRs are gonna be the only way to force change upon the industry as far as compliance.

Brisms I agree with you on the EOBR's BigSam most don't need a nap everyday, but once in awhile a driver will not sleep well the night before and needs a nap. The HOS doesn't tell when to drive, just how long. Also the HOS were set up for the average of 7-8 hours of sleep that most people need. The rest of the time is for the things the average person before and after sleeping.

No, the HOS do not tell a driver when to drive, but most companies do expect driving when the hours are available.
