Hi everyone so i recently bought this radio at a yard sale for $5 and was wondering if theyre any good.I think its pre 1979 and in the back it says made in japan so i think it uses good materials. The guy who sold it to me told me he had it in his truck and decided to take it off.I havent tested if it works or anything but ill be taking it to a shop in a couple of weeks or so to see if it works.Anyways thanks for your feedback guys and gals. Also by the way the radio in the pic is not mine its just an example of what it looks like.

Cool old school radio....oh it's "pre 1979" alright....in fact according to this website: http://home.ptd.net/~n3cvj/ssb50.htm, your radio could have been built as far back as 1973! (the 40 channel CB's started in 1977)

As for if they're any good.....according to what I have read, they were good during their time. By todays standards it's outdated and there's probably not too much you can do to the radio in terms of modifications like you can some of the newer radios.

It does have single side band which is a cool feature to have though I don't believe many truckers use ssb.

Definitley have it checked out and if it works ok I'd just run it as is. Maybe if anything see if accepts a 4 pin mic like a newer style Cobra or Uniden does, and if so run a Skythumper mic or an Astatic 636. .

Here's a few classic advertisements to when your radio was new....enjoy: http://www.cbtricks.com/radios/lafayette/telsat_ssb50/ad/index.htm

yea it looks like a good radio i believe the guy that it still works because i was looking in the internet and i saw these old ads diffrent from the ones you posted and i think i saw the same microphone.I also forgot to mention he sold it to me with the field strength/swr tester all for 5$.The radio even came with the clip thingy that goes on top.I also saw on the back it has an alarm???The cable is cut off but im pretty sure i can add a new one.As for the microphone its 4 pin but it dont look like the modern day 4 pin.Anyways thanks for the feedback guys and gals :biggrin_255:
