I’m hourly, but also working under local rules.

If anybody thinks we have epidemic of Cascadia life now with idiots who can’t get out of their own way and camp out at the fuel island, what do they think will happen if OTR drivers work hourly? o_O

That seems a catch-22 these days, what with the freight being so light.

Not enough loads to go around so the driver is sitting more.
The driver sure would like to be paid hourly in that situation.
On the other hand, how can a company pay drivers hourly for sitting if they have no loads paying for it?

My company has a guaranteed minimum pay every week. So far they have not run out of freight. Two weeks ago I was in PA and load was not ready. First they said just wait because no other loads coming out of PA. Then they found another load in PA at one of our usual customers. I had to wait till next day to load it.

last week I had lower then normal miles so the guaranteed pay will kick in. I know the company doesn’t like that happening. I don’t mind because my rate per mile goes up.

The last week I have seen a lot more trucks on the road than normal. Things may be picking up.

Simple, quit trying to be the lowest bidder and charge detention pay back to the shipper. Often times they do with just a pittance going back to the driver.

In the race to the bottom no one wins. Certainly not the turd at the end of the stream.
