I don't know how it is today but about 10 or 12 yrs ago i trained for a company that got students from roadmaster and that school had the people coming out of there thinking they were super truckers, of course the trainers took a day or two to deflate their inflated egos, after that we were able to work on the basics that the had learned from roadmaster.
just remember the three weeks you have with a trucking company is a long way from knowing what you need to know in this industry, ask questions and learn from the people that have been ther and done that it takes time but as long as you are willing to learn ant take constructive criticism once in a while you will be ok -
Yup already learning a lot from this site . I know a lot about the bills and receiving the freight since I work at a warehouse on the in bound receiving side . Don't know squat about the out bound or driving makes me wonder if I'm getting in over my head .

I did fill out an online app. apparently RoadMasters got a copy, I just got off the telephone with them. Of course they painted a really pretty picture, at the tune of 6495.00 tuition and hoousing. On site interviews. Is this really worth it. There would be no contract between me and Truck company but at the same point there is no job at the end of the course.
in put please. -
I trained with RoadMaster in Columbus Ohio back in 2007 and have nothing bad to say about them. The biggest thing was the cost for the 3 week course(6K). I really didn't see any students who passed the final roadtest with inflated egos. Maybe they developed them after the fact, who knows.

Read around the forums . Read the company trainers threads about the people they send packing . With the oversupply of drivers it's tough to get hired . If you get hired you have to meet the standards of the trainer . They won't hesitate to send somebody packing . They know there are thousands more they can choose from . Those that make it find they only get enough miles to make $300 - $400 a week . Go to the driving school threads and click a few poster's profiles and see all their posts . See how some of them just disappeared after finishing school .

Does anyone have recent experience with Road Masters in San Antonio? The wife and I are planning to become team drivers. We see a lot of kudos for Road Masters, but they are not PTDI. The local Swift driving academy is PTDI certified.
Many recommend the PTDI schools, and I think there is some advantage.
After several weeks of reading and studying, not all of it on this web site, I conclude the following:
1. First year is tough, no way around it unless extremely lucky.
2. If you have some cash to fall back on, things will go a lot easier. (We do.)
3. After one year (maybe just 6 months) a good team is highly sought by many companies.
So is there any reasons we should not just get hired by Swift, attend their school, drive for them for one year? What am I missing?
