I can't add to much to what has already been said. Chinatown is right, he shouldn't have called the company. He made an error in judgment there. What he will have to learn is that out here on the road, he has to make decisions that are more reliant on the common sense side of things as opposed to the micro management side of company policies. Using cruise control in a residential area is definitely a bad idea. The companies that haven't shot him down, he needs to make sure he calls daily. Maybe even multiple times daily. Like Chinatown said, and I'll reiterate.....if Swift takes him, make sure he goes refrigerated or flatbed. If Western takes him, make sure he goes flatbed.
I think he needs to go flatbed first. Flatbed will help him to pay more attention to details and become more resourceful. I think flatbed develops more problem solving skills.
I get he hates forums and social media, but he really needs to come on here for himself and explain things from his vantage point. It'll be easier to help him directly. Once he gets his 2nd chance, and he will get one, he can't rely on mama to do his bidding every time he has questions relating to life out here.Last edited: Apr 27, 2024

The mistake he made was reporting an incident that was not a ticket able offence, if it was the officer involved would of written one out, if not then I would not have reported the matter. We all make mistakes, although a school bus is serious, which is why in most cases I could see why it would be considered reportable, but it can't be if the officer did not write you up for a violation. Were then any other traffic matters that were reported it just seems odd how they'd give him notice for one incident, if he got no ticket, some companies if there looking for an excuse to get rid of a driver may use this as an excuse, if he'd continually had traffic incidents, it does seem rather harsh though for a one off. You could consider legal action if you feel it is unjust, however why could he not safely stop? Perhaps the issue is driving to conditions, if the speed sign says 35, 45, or 60 mph this is a recommended speed in ideal conditions, it was raining the roads are slippery you slow down and allow for a safter braking distance, following to close for the speed (tail gating) is also a very dangerous practice and can lead to incidents like these, thankfully no school children were hurt, and he can learn from this and move on. With all the hype about training drivers to drive, at driving schools, its becoming more and more obvious that nothing is being taught about defensive driving techniques.LadyNytmre Thanks this.

Tell him to call Tyson foods. They may take him but will probably want to send him with a trainer for a week or two with only 7 mo experience

For practical reasons one has to learn that a company safety department, especially at a Mega like Schneider, is too often detached from the real world and the less you talk to them the better. Let them call you.

As for Leonard's, yeah, they'll 'get you home' if you live in Western/Central NY or northern PA..... -

Ozark doesn't require experience. I worked there with none. They'll put you with a trainer for a month, though.
Ozark is where I started. The pay was great, the miles were not. They were perfectly happy with making you wait until 11pm to pick up a FedEx trailer going to FedEx Atlanta (360 paid miles) having you sit in ATL all day unpaid, to return to Memphis the next night, 11pm to 5am again. 360 miles. So in 2 days you got 720 miles. And they were happy with this.
Well, I was not.
They also screw drivers out of pay by using city-to-city mileage. Not zip to zip. I dropped off a load in southeast Houston and picked up a load in Northwest Houston. 45 miles, took an hour and 45 minutes of stop and go traffic. Since no miles between Houston and Houston, 0 paid miles. I had several loads that were over 500 road miles, and they paid like 430 or so paid miles. I told them its more miles as the crow flies than what they are paying. I finally cursed out my dispatcher.
Needless to say I don't work for that outfit anymore.Last edited: Apr 27, 2024
