You can get a CDL through Swift Transportation's Driving Academy, at the following terminal location:

Fontana, CA | CDL Training Partner School

I think you would need to work/drive at Swift FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR -- to pay back your tuition costs, without anything else out-of-pocket.

And here's a Swift job posting (from the same terminal) that you might qualify/get hired for, after obtaining your CDL thru the Swift Academy:

Top 25% of Reefer OTR drivers at the Fontana terminal average $1900 weekly. Drivers can earn trip pay based on a calculation of dispatched miles that ranges from $.46 to $.61 cpm depending on route and experience. Weekly paychecks.

Wow, I'm looking at this stuff. It does seem like Swift has more stuff than Schneider... at least out west.

You know why I sort of passed over Swift... because you all were making fun of their driving record lol.

But no seriously, I do know that it's relative to the size and number of drivers in a company. So yeah, very helpful... I'll look more into Swift.

Despite all of the Swift jokes & memes (& yes, some of them are quite amusing :D)....Swift does have some very competent drivers & instructors, who have made careers there.

With Swift -- expect to be out on trainer's truck for at least 3 weeks.

Anyway....it's probably not a bad idea to investigate the above posted links to some degree.

You might be surprised at what you find out...

Ran the West coast and kinda focused on Hazmat as an Owner op. I hauled it because the rates were half again to pushing double of standard freight.

Most of the stuff I hauled was pesticides and farm chemicals stuff, fiberglass resin in drums, stuff to wash vegetables coming out of the fields, Stuff to wash cows and clean the milking machines, Super sacks of beach sand from oil spill cleanup, and empty hazmat totes hauled to recycle places.

Also some "explosives" stuff like Fireworks, bullets, and the powder part of Nitrate explosives.

As long as you dont get in a fiery crash, most of it was not overly hazardous. The quantity/weight of it pushed it into the catagory. If you put enough conference room phones in a trailer they become hazmat because of the batteries inside them.

Sketchiest I pulled was a bunch of totes of very thick ultra pure Sulfuric Acid, stuff sloshed funny. Ran through a major metro area during evening commute and was constantly cut off by cars.

    There is that.
Freight is bad right now, but we can always hope it will get better sooner than later.
