One of the Floats here who regularly runs too heavy got a suprise.
The neck on his trailer cracked and separated.
Wrecker delivered his load and used a non certified welder to repair.
    Safety put trailer OOS.

Oh, that thing ain't stopping. It's going to mow over whatever pulls out in front of it. That's the thing about big pick ups. They have a lot of power, but they just don't have enough break.

After it rolls over that Pickup, all they'll need is syrup and butter!

There's nothing wrong with the roller? At most the guy is a bit overloaded for a half ton but it's secured fine. 5 points of securement(assuming he has another front corner tiedown to match the visible one) on a roller that weighs at most about 10,000lbs. Hard to tell since we can't see a model number. If each of those straps is rated for 3333lbs WLL like most every 2" strap is he has 16,665 lbs of WLL. Even if you cut it in half to 8333 lbs since they are all direct securements he's still got plenty legally.

There's nothing wrong or illegal with using straps to secure equipment. Especially when used in direct tiedowns like this pulling in multiple directions.

    IF under 10,000lb
Am quite sure regs state 10k+ MUST be chains
Not even disputing your statement the roller is under, just dont want amyone thinking you mean securing real size machinery doesnt require chains

Edit, and apparently i was wrong, it states tiedowns and specifies the 4 corners going forward/rearward and lateral

Thats exactly what I'm saying. The law says "tiedown". It does not specify type.

§ 393.130 What are the rules for securing heavy vehicles, equipment and machinery?
    (a) Applicability. The rules in this section apply to the transportation of heavy vehicles, equipment and machinery which operate on wheels or tracks, such as front end loaders, bulldozers, tractors, and power shovels and which individually weigh 4,536 kg (10,000 lb.) or more. Vehicles, equipment and machinery which is lighter than 4,536 kg (10,000 lb.) may also be secured in accordance with the provisions of this section, with § 393.128, or in accordance with the provisions of §§ 393.100 through 393.114.

    (b) Preparation of equipment being transported.

    (1) Accessory equipment, such as hydraulic shovels, must be completely lowered and secured to the vehicle.

    (2) Articulated vehicles shall be restrained in a manner that prevents articulation while in transit.

    (c) Securement of heavy vehicles, equipment or machinery with crawler tracks or wheels.

    (1) In addition to the requirements of paragraph (b) of this section, heavy equipment or machinery with crawler tracks or wheels must be restrained against movement in the lateral, forward, rearward, and vertical direction using a minimum of four tiedowns.

    (2) Each of the tiedowns must be affixed as close as practicable to the front and rear of the vehicle, or mounting points on the vehicle that have been specifically designed for that purpose.

If it is strap.chains connected to winches connected to the trailer, then I have no problem with straps, if it is some type of portable tightened by hand then it's a no go in my book, if I can't get a bar on that portable and tighten it down like it should be tightened, then I am Not hauling it. Looking at a load and saying well that's "legally" secured is a copout or lazy mans game, when I look at securement it's would that kill me or someone else coming off the trailer if shtf? Then if it's secure to that point then it's secure
