What you describe, I have done. Mostly I avoid it. You are vulnerable to a terrible crash if one of the 4-wheelers obsessing over their smartphone doesn't look up in time to stop. I would more often, when possible make a right turn and then a left or right turn a street or two later to accomplish a type of extended and legal U-turn.. Like the previous driver said a series of left turns is a u-turn.

When we pull into some gas stations around here , thats about the only way to get set up for that turn into the station .
( ie - block right lane with rear of trlr , tractor to the left lane , then button hook into it .) It's really a pain in the ### , but thats how it works.
Some older stores around here you have to back out of , and thats really scary during rush hour !Bud A. Thanks this. -

“But your honor, I was 1/5 of a mile away from the red light when I pulled out and blocked traffic” doesn’t seem like a good defense to me, so I won’t put myself in that position.kylefitzy Thanks this. -
