New ones would typically take roughly 70k miles to seal up rings. Till then burning oil and bad mpg is normal. Once the mpg jumps up , sometimes as much as 1 while mpg. You’ll know the rings are sealed up, and should quit using oil. That’s not many shavings at all. My first oil change had this amount. Even though we cleaned it out pretty good. Had all 6 counterbores done. Whoever did your overhaul did a good job of cleaning it. The filters catch shavings. Not a big deal. Normal.

I've got a 1996 series 60 12.7 recently rebuilt. It used a half gallon by the first oil change at 5000 miles. Got almost 30,000 on it now and hasn't used any , just a drop or 2 from the blowby tube after sitting over night. The only idling is loading and unloading so far. I pull a RGN and sometimes a stepdeck. It'll be idling over night soon , just trying to hold off for now giving it time to break in good.Deere hunter, Rideandrepair and martin2722 Thank this.

Wow that's way more, I die used a big magnet over the oil plug magnet to actually have those shavings show. Mpg is good as well, 40k loaded around 7.7, light loads 8.5-8.8. Thanks for the helpRideandrepair Thanks this.
