Yeah that’s where my mind is as well.. I’ve talked to some bulk guys that say the aero doesn’t matter as much when your running heavier and to focus on gear ratios etc.. but I wonder if anyone else has had a different experience.. Oakley seems transparent with the fuel surcharges every week and I hear it’s capped so drivers don’t pay more then $2 a gallon when all said is done. I believe every 0.01 gallon goes up Oakley adds 0.05 to the surcharge

It’s pretty interesting the first time you pull a pneumatic in the rain and see how turbulent the spray is along the sides of the trailer.

The gear ratios and the trans matter

    I’d get a 18 speed .
No question about that part .

Most of the guys I know that have been in the pnuematic game down here just run day cabs. If they can remove sleeper they will. These guys lighten them up as much as they can. Cap off one fuel tank so it stays empty. Etc. Most of them run hard 5 sometimes 6 days a week but they are home every night so mobile bedrooms arn’t necessary. Not one talks about mpg’s. Because of all the concrete quarries and oil fields its Just how its been done in these parts for decades.

    Random thoughts…

bulk hauling tare weight low as possible

fuel mileage isn’t gonna be great

the crapacadia 12 speed probably isn’t speced for a Pto. Costing much more to install

Oakley’s web site is pretty scary money wise…..

Oakley isn’t gonna blow smoke up your butt. They’re a good outfit.

People don’t realize that the money is to the truck. They all act like those figures are gross and all the lease charges come out of that.

Mileage pay usually sucks….. I’m aware these figures are after the cut. You don’t know what the load pays because you’re on a mileage lease. The only way to increase revenue/profit is to run more miles.

So you can load and unload with your blower and 500 horse engine and do tank washes for free. And get paid zip code to zip code with a driver facing camera on you….

But it’s better then running a van off the boards I guess…..
