Age of drivers, is 60 too old to start?

Back to the original question, no 60 is not too old. Hopefully you are in reasonably good health and reasonably physically fit.
One word of caution, if your get hired on with a decent sized company there will be workers/drivers way, way younger than you, but may very well have a decades under their belt doing the same thing you just got hired on to do. Those ‘young bucks’ will not cut you any slack. The ‘I’m too old to hand load those boxes’ or ‘I deserve an easier route’, that bullcrap will get you shown the door in a heartbeat. Those guys/gals that have been there decades before you, and don’t have a grey hair, have earned the privilege of having that easier route, or assigned a trailer that is pre-loaded for them everyday.

No, it' a software company.
Many drivers on this forum that had severe issues finding work, such as criminal history, ex-convicts, etc. found good trucking jobs on Tenstreet.

Chinatown. I see that you post a lot on this site and have a lot of valuable insight to give. I am 55 and am looking to make a change, I have read many many posts on age not being an issue which is great, I guess my questions would be what is the best place to start obtaining a CDL license with a company and not paying for it and there are many different types LTL, Flatbed etc etc, which would you say is the best place to start for a new driver? Also, any recommendations, I am in Kentucky? Thanks

 

If you can afford it, going to a school that YOU pay for is the best route to go. All the companies that would "train you free" will hire new drivers also. You CAN get "free training" ("free" is never free) by going to a companies school, but you, of course, pay for it in the long run. You will have to work for them for a certain amount of time to "pay it off". If you leave early or get fired you are still on the hook for the rest.

L-T-L means less than truckload. It isnt really a "type" City guys make P&D runs (pickup and delivery) generally around town and often also involves dock work. But you are home every night. There is also "line haul" which generally runs at night which takes the days pick ups and moves them elsewhere. Depending on the company you may be back home in the morning, or you may be out all week, but I have never seen one that kept people out more than a week at a time. And they generally put you up in motels every night.

As for the "type", that would be tanker, dry van, flatbed, refer, ect. That is an individual taste.
