hanks for your reply, I do understand where you are coming from.

I have been working in a bank, as a risk manager, and I do mind my p's and q's. I am planning to go into this bussiness with another experienced driver. I am looking to buy an established MC to save couple of months of aggrivation. I understand how though this business, especially with the downturn, falling rates, and increasing diesel prices, and shortage of cargo, etc. It is definitely a tough and grinding lifestyle.

What I was saying is that I am sure some of the owner's operators are/must be looking to get out of this business. I was hoping to make an easier transition to both. I wasn't trying to be disrespectful or anything.

My understanding is that this is negotiable. I would like to discuss in private if you are serious.

I am trying to save some time and aggravation. It is not much different than buying an established restaurant, or setting up a new restaurant. Business is business.

    hahaha, you are correct!
I am just trying to avoid the difficult part, aggravation with 6 months of grunt work. I would much rather start loading up immediately than digging through left overs.

I am looking to put a side some money for rainy day, and couple of months of not working. What would be the number you would say makes sense? I hear some says $20K for an old truck, and a $10K for a new one. I am all ears for suggestions.

You're making a good point. Just make sure your business partner understands the business of Trucking completely and not lazy towards it on that end. Tons of sharks in this business. The Carrier I'm leased to bought the 30 year old busines from a previous owner for an undisclosed amount (I'm sure its $1.5 Million minimum because it was still profitable when purchased). Everything was setup, good to go from direct customers with a smaller side brokerage too. Point being, in this market if you can get something reaaonable with at lease one direct customer you may survive the downturn of freight because of the freight recession due to over capacity. Occasionally, you will see a carrier or two on this forum selling their Authority either because they're getting old and want to enjoy life or they don't see much overall gain from their situation.

There is very little profit in trucking vs regular business. It’s not as easy as lots of people think. Everyone is buying and driving the same truck with basically the operating expenses. You have be able to out do the next person who already in business and willing to work cheaper then you are.

You have some drivers living in their trucks 24/7 and basically no home so they can work cheaper. You have companies that run mega fleet of trucks all with new drivers and new driver pay. Plus they are self insured for like the first 1 million dollars. So they save money on insurance rates.

You better spec the truck for MPG in today’s market. Some might disagree but diesel is your biggest expense guys like Joel morrow on facebook with his purple Volvo spec for MPG is getting like 10 mpg.

    NorthEastTrucker Thanks this.

Thank you, hearing this makes me little more encouraged.
It is a cut-throat business and there are lots of risks. I do not want to put all my nest egg into this, but given my personal circumstances, I thought it might be a good opportunity, if I can get into it from basement prices.
What I learned from finance, if everyone is thinking it is good time to invest into one stock, it is that you are probably late to the party. If you think if everyone is thinking that it is the dumbest think to invest into an industry, it is probably right time to start planning to invest.
There will always be trucking, as long as we are the America. God knows, with Biden, we might end up riding a Tesla Semi, if he gets his way!
    But I am still hopeful!
    Better days ahead folks!

I hear you my friend, and life seems to be getting harder everyday. I think 10mpg should be achievable with today's technology. Afterall we put people in the moon!

Yet still you are right, the big companies are killing the owner operators! They buy the new trucks in bulks for so much cheaper, they have cost savings with their own mechanics, sell their chewed up, lemon trucks to small guys, save on insurance, and have direct links to suppliers.

When you look at this way, I think more people should be selling their good MCs for less :)

Not that I am interested buying one :)
