No, if you run an apportion tag you don't pay sales tax on truck or trailer.

Looks like the rolling stock exemption applies to interstate carriers and I run intrastate.

Well, I would probably switch to apportion tag. Your tags will run here about $1300 and it sure would save you a lot of money of course you would have to file quarterly but that's no big deal.

    Dera209 and Ruthless Thank this.

Depends on the state. South Dakota hits you for 2.5%.

Yes you do. However, your state may give you a sales tax exemption, but other states do not.

Since you will be transferring it to a brand new TX entity, you're probably liable for sales tax. Whether or not TX will let you put down a dollar for the sales price will be up to the DMV person you speak with. It may be better for you to keep the CA corp as a holding company for your equipment, start a new company in TX and lease the truck to the new company's authority and tag it through the new company.

    Dera209 Thanks this.

Well, I am not a new entity. I have been in Texas for many years. I also trade Trucks and Trailers quite often and buy and sell and have not paid sales tax. Maybe I'm missing something.

    Rideandrepair and Dera209 Thank this.
