That looks like the sensor that sticks in ur a/c core to turn the compressor on and off to keep the core from freezing up.I may be wrong, just tryin to help.
-
You are correct and they it only cost $17 at freightliner.
Gears what you posted has nothing to do with fan speed. -
It is a thermostatic switch. It probably shuts off the compressor if the cold coil starts to freeze up. It is not likely the problem when a fan does not run but the coil makes cold. I'd put that back, the trouble with the wire overheating is probably elsewhere.
How hot did the red wire get? It may get warm if it is a cheap-o small wire but should never be not too hot to hold.
How many thousands of hours might the fan have on it? The post suggesting to check it for dragging has merit. Also note some fans will turn freely but drag only when energized, so they will spin up but consume very large amounts of current, possibly heating that red wire as you said. -
You guys are spot on. I did more digging and discovered the resistor is mounted on the motor between the two fan blower assemblies. The fans turn very freely. I'll look into getting a 12 volt convertor at Radio Shack and do some bench testing.
Thanks for chiming it... I appreciate your help!!

Your problem sounded a lot like what I was dealing with I'm just glad I could help a little and hope you get it right. I've had problems with my a/c for almost 2 years now and just now got it right man I cant believe it lol I used to envy the drivers with their windows up on the blazing hot days. It had a hose bust and compressor go bad all sorts of fun stuff..I've learned a lot about my a/c in the process but it didnt come cheap. My lonely thread in the kenworth section didnt much go anywhere lol http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...-a-c-blower-motor-c-problems.html#post1929212 But I managed to find a very proffessional local independant shop T&K Lebanon, TN that only charged $65 an hour. The best part is these guys didn't mind me hanging out while they were diagnosing my troubles and they actually sought my input on what it was doing. Can you imagine that? They actually talked to me to diagnose it...
MHC Kenworth Chattanooga (Nashville MHC are a bunch of rip off artists too) wants to write it down on a piece of paper, toss it in a stack of workorders, and let it sit all week before they get to it. Then their mechanic wont call to ask what specifically is going on. The service writer half ### writes the problem up. They change parts and dont fix anything charging me over $100 an hour. I just dont understand how a problem can be fixed if the mechanic doesnt talk with the driver to even begin diagnosing... I dont know how those crooks can get such a premium on labor... Never again..Last edited: Jun 25, 2011

Wish I would've seen your thread I would've tried to help in any way possible. I'm no a/c expert but I've been playing with mine for a long time to get it the way I want it.Gears Thanks this.
