I also asked an attorney (the one who sorted out my identity theft issues) and he said that, not only does it extend to include any government issued ID (meaning State is considered government issued), but since the rules for CDL's are set by federal laws, with the management delegated to the states, they are to be considered federally issued, especially if the transition to RealID has been done.
There are limited situations where it's legal, but a shipping office doesn't fall in with any of them.

Then start suing or prosecuting. Or maybe we can strike or convoy to DC, something something, problem fixed.

I have had a Discover Card for many years.
Two weeks ago, I signed up for their Identity Theft Program.
Then three days later, I received an email stating my DL is on the internet.
You can't be too careful.TheLoadOut Thanks this. -
That costs money. Easier solution is for us to stop accepting it as status quo and actually questioning it. The more they hear it, the quicker they will change it and act like it was their idea after all.

I didn't realize this was still happening.
A few days after 9-11 the one local liquid storage tank farm started in copying driver CDL's when they checked in to load. One of our guys was formerly a paralegal and refused indicating he would file suit and the line of divers behind him started talking class action siut and they changed their minds...23 years ago!
His ex. boss delivered a certified letter to this facility the following day which cemented their decision to stop.TheLoadOut Thanks this. -
With all the data breaches, and yes, all the freely passing around of your Social Security number for basically almost any membership or doctors appointment or anything else you do these days, are like 90+ percent your information is already on the dark web. It just may or may not have already been picked up by someone willing to pay for that information. I have several monitoring services one is through Discover credit cards and last month I got four notifications that someone had been using my Social Security number. They were using it to apply for housing, they didn’t take out any credit or anything like that just used it to get approved for rental in two different locations. I immediately froze my credit and signed up for a Service that offers insurance as well. This is really all you could do these days. Remember that commercial a while ago where the guy painted his Social Security number on the side of a van. I think he was the CEO for LifeLock? That’s really about how it is now. You have to block people from being able to use your credit. because your information is not private. It’s out there. It’s been out there.

I doubt it. Most of the times the shipping clerks are the low man on the totem pole. They don't care and have no say in company policy. And with thousands of the Volvo outfits willing to run any freight, the shipper can stand to lose someone who gives them issues.gentleroger and tscottme Thank this.

Most shipping clerks won't care enough to report the issue. If you leave then they will just tell their bosses you were difficult and have you blacklisted.tscottme Thanks this.

What makes more noise, 1 pin dropping, or 1000 saying the same thing at the same time?
And I wouldn't say anything to the shipping clerk, I'd find the shipper online/Facebook/LinkedIn and post it there where decision makers will see it. Enough responses there will give them notice.
All I'm saying is that we shouldn't be expected to accept this BS as status quo and allow it as 'company policy' gives them legal authority to do. Enough drivers refusing to take their freight because of this will force them to change, or hire their own drivers.TheLoadOut Thanks this. -
Oh, and I've been blacklisted twice, once when I was supposed to go home from a delivery and lost my cool when they were taking too long and I had to get home when my dad was DYING! The other time when I refused to have MY DEVICE used for tracking with an app that had a history of creating a weakness in devices it was installed on that allowed a virus in and destroyed data.TheLoadOut Thanks this.
