So one would surmise that when one reaches the Delaware state line....one must leave their brains in another state? :biggrin_2556:

Meh...I thought Cali, OR, and CO, were bad...I'm glad I don't run the east coast....:biggrin_2551:

i prefer the signs that say something along the lines of "excessive engine brake noise prohibited". I will normally be polite for those signs simply cause they arrent outlawing the the jakes, just merely telling people to use there head and be quiet if possible.

I've been driving Freightliner Centuries for the last ten years or so. Before that, I was tooling around in a 1996 Mack. Heck you can't hear the jake brake on my truck, and that pretty much applies to every truck I've driven, including the Mack. The factory exhaust system muffles it. If you want to have yours heard, God bless ya, but it's not necessary. But can you guys knock it off with using them in the truck stop at 2 am? What is wrong with these guys?

I can't think of any spot in Delaware where you need a jake brake.

I think to hit the issue on the head is the staight pipes, I have property on a state highway in New York, and Lord knows there are some of these guys with 6 inch straight pipes that if you are any closer than 500 feet from the road you can actually feel the rumble. The 9900 I drive right now, even dropping gears hard it is barely noticeable. I think it comes down to simple common sense that has to be achieved by the guys that need to shake the ground, we all like the sound of the jake on occasion, but is it necessary to rattle the windows out of houses and cause problems? I usual run roughly 110k weither it is scrap metal or salt (our primary commodities we pull here) and if that 500 cat won;t blows windows out, shutting these weights down, why is it necessary for 80k loads to do it? Then again there are the bureaucratic mentalities that think turckers are rolling ATMs as well.

I agree with you here as far as the short pecker crowd that feel the need to run straight pipes and use a Jake brake to slow down for every stop light in town...
These idiots are the primary reason that we all have to put up with stupid noise laws.

I run stock mufflers on my truck and I use my Jakes in posted areas all the time because they don't make much noise and no one notices.

If you run straight pipes...Don't complain about the noise law because YOU are the reason that the law exists!
