TBH for a days ride it would’ve been towed to my local shop or dealer .. unless they are incompetent.

Assuming 'her' post was 100% legit, she'll soon have to prepare for a bankruptcy, since he doesn't sound like a good (or even a marginal..) businessman. But if he's near a truckstop, I can attest that there is a lot of freight headed through Youngstown going right to or through Albany, so finding a ride (and maybe even a meal) shouldn't be too difficult.

She posted he was at Youngstown KW in Hubbard, OH. And they lived somewhere in NY state.

Of course, after not getting anyone to front him a bundle of money, she hasn't been back.

Planning that way is always good, unfortunately life never usually agrees, I had a car total my trailer last winter and by the time I got the freight swapped over to a rental trailer and rolled out of the yard, popped the motor, #### does happen, I haven’t ventured too far from home since so I can slowly build up my reserves though so I don’t end up in a situation like this

I know this thread is old, I usually just bounce around and read BUT I had to stop and comment on this. Everyone out here knows these MEGA carriers #### everyone. I do not blame him one bit for wanting to go owner operator. I have worked for a few mega carriers and you get ####ed being company or LP. If your company you go where they send you, you don't make it home til they want you home and they sure the #### don't care what special events you have, vacations, MY MOTHER passed away and it took em a week.

I am currently in the same boat he is in. I just purchased my first truck no more lease purchases for me cuz I was getting ####ed there too. I have my ducks in a row, Financing, extended warranty and a back up lender if it breaks down.

So here is a little back story and this just started June, I have High Blood Pressure and sleep apnea, My safety called asking questions about this and about that, they said the new Insurance carrier they have is a bit concerned and wanted me to come into to the terminal and fill out some papers so they can confer with my doctor. Fine so be it, I'm taking my meds, My printouts are in line with my doc so did not think much about it.
So I was called about 2 weeks later by a buddy of mine who had not been running any miles in a week or so, think the most he ran was 1200 miles which isn't a lot.
So the next week I started loosing miles being a strong runner. I called my dispatcher who told me she didn't know what was going on to just let her talk to the planner. Next day she called me and told me the planner didn't give her a lot of information.
So here we are in July and drivers are #####ing home times are cancelled, they keeping em at there max 70 and here I am at a truck stop only ran 1800 miles that week. So I called my dispatcher and she was dumbfounded. So out of the blue I get a message they sending me home on home time. I was like WTF and called my dispatcher again, SHE don't know WTF either and they dead headed me home 478 miles so I came home.

I sat here from June into the 2nd week of July with no load. My dispatcher didn't know what the F, I didn't know what the F BUT I had to make money so I told em I would bring the truck back and find a new carrier. Low and behold 20 mins later they called me with a load from LA to OKC.

In August my old Dispatcher called me and told me that the new Insurance carrier was black balling all the drivers with certain medical issues. High Blood Pressure, Sleep Apnea, at that time I put 2 and 2 together why other companies wasn't calling me either because some specifically called and asked me about my medical card.

This can happen to any of us. I actually found out thru my doctor a lot of drivers this has happened to recently.

I am not giving up my lively hood at 51 to start all over. I bought a truck on what I had saved, made sure my ducks was in a row and had a back up and here I go starting a new carrier as a true owner op. I live a lone, I have a dog and I have family who need my help so I had to do what I had to do and get my own set up. Is this a learning curve, yes. I'm used to calling breakdown and saying hey I need a room, or I need a new truck, or hey ay this bill.

Not all of us have a 70K back up bank account

At any moment in time, they will let you go, take away miles or even figure out a reason to fire you. I have seen many many many truckers loose everything they had because they said something stupid to a carrier and it was put on there DAC. During the LA Riots, I seen 5 or 6 drivers be fired for failing to go into LA. It was put on there DAC report Discharged (Performance) and you won't find a job after that for a few months,

If I thought every trucking company was dishonest, the last thing I would do is put all of my savings into trucking to buy a truck and volunteer to pay all of the bills. At least a lottery ticket has a cheaper price and bigger potential payout. NO trucking company is going to ignore their insurance carrier, nor should they.
