Most vehicles come with an anti microbial carpet padding. It’s the grey looking stuff. It’s designed to get wet and dry out repeatedly without gettin moldy. It will get moldy if left wet for a long enough time. Any old car or Truck with leaks that’s sat a while will smell musty. Mold needs a certain temperature, 55 degrees + and 72 hrs. to start growing. Spill something on the floor, with heat on it dries very fast. With a/c on it’ll dry faster than not. Due to dehumidification action of the a/c. I bought my Truck after it sat in the Georgia summertime with a leaking windshield. It was musty smelling. I ripped out the carpet, padding, cleaned with Lysol and painted the floor. I replaced the original padding with foam and new carpet. No more musty smell. However condensation is constantly between the foam padding and aluminum floor. Good thing it’s not steel. I should have glued it down, leaving no air gap. Old economy cars and Trucks used to have rubber mats as standard equipment. They had the anti microbial padding, but couldn’t breathe. As a result the steel floorboards would rust out very quickly from trapped moisture. Bottom line, make sure it dries out within 72 hrs. Shouldn’t be a problem.

Man, that's a lot of work. I just open the driver door while I'm fueling and give the interior about a 3 second squirt of diesel or DEF depending on my mood and I never smell mold anymore.

This is a true expert. I didn’t even know the manufacturer knew this much about it. My hats off to you my friend.
