Since you're running OTR, the other day to remember to shave is when you go to a terminal. Someone in the office will notice the stubble.

Also, running OTR tanker is great, and I loved it, but when things changed and I needed to get home to Colorado more often, it became obvious that chemical tanker is mostly and eastern thing, or a west coast I-5 thing.

There are almost no chemical tank washes west of a line from Wisconsin south to Houston. There was one in Denver that was pretty crappy for truck drivers since their main business was washing out rail cars. No facilities at all. Not sure if they're even still around. There was one in SLC that was OK. There was one in Portland OR and one in Richmond, California. I remember hearing something about a tank wash in Phoenix, but I've never been there. One in Kansas City too, but I don't remember which side of the line it was on right now. That's it as far as I know. So if you get a load of latex to the Sherwin Williams plant in Fernley, make sure you have another load of latex after that, or you're going to have a long deadhead. (Better yet, try to avoid hauling latex in anything other than a dedicated trailer.)

My point is, I guess, talk to anyone you can to get good current info on the tank washes you are likely to end up using, and include that in your trip planning. Valuable information.

Tank washes in the DFW area- in Saginaw, Hutchins and Waxahachie. 2 in W Memphis, Ar and one in El Dorado and Little Rock, Ar. Tulsa, Ok. and at least 2 in the St Gabriel, La area. When I first started tank, I kept a notebook where i would write down washed I'd been to and ones i was told about.

I used to stop on my route, get fuel, park, shower and drive to the customer for my 10. One thing about tanker work is the receiver is not usually backed up with 100 trucks waiting to unload. Most of the customers I delivered to were 24/7 unload and the ones that weren't allowed us to park and sleep

Modern Bulk Transporter publishes a list in their mag and, I think, on-line.

Actually they have a few 'lists thru the year like bulk rail to truck sites, wash out racks and more.

Worked with a guy who was on an ambulance squad before all the high tech and he said the face mask with the bag they squeezed to help patients breath wouldn't work on any facial hair.

When the navy first allowed facial hair they taught seamen to use Vaseline the seal a face mask; not always the optimum in a cloud of 1, 2, kill 'ya quick.
