I work for a very small ltl company right now with trash equipment. Every trailer with lifts has a hydraulic leak (I reported this 3 months ago), not much gets fixed around here just the bare minimum. Well today while making deliveries my main cylinder seal blew out completely and I was dragging my lift.
Luckily I was pulled over/spotted by DOT (I think it just happened because there isn't much damage/if any scraping on the lift). He gave me a warning and told me I was lucky to not get a DOT inspection which I agreed because my truck does have check engine light and terrible tires. I asked him several times if this warning would show up anywhere on my backround or driving record and he insisted no. Can someone clear this up, will this warning show on a pre employment backround screen for a CDL position?
I don't know what to do about the job, obviously I am going to demand getting everything on my rig and every trailer from here on out fixed but I'm not sure if it's going to happen. What would you do?
Look at what the warning states in the picture uploaded, if that stuff shows up that will look super bad on my record.

Been years since I’ve driven a truck with a lift gate but remember them all having a locking mechanism to prevent it from dropping.
Was a hook that locked into a bracket..was yours broken or missing?bryan21384, Big Road Skateboard and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
There is a lock, but that's broken too
Flat Earth Trucker and Concorde Thank this. -
Probably should have come up with something to lock it in place..think MacGyver

Sorry, brother, got to accept some of the blame on that one. Probably better to just find another job where you won’t feel obligated to drive crap equipment around.snowlauncher, hotrod1653, Crude Truckin' and 7 others Thank this. -
Do you know if it shows up on your DOT record/any record if looking for a new job?Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this.
-
Maybe a safety chain to keep it from going down while moving.
Warnings go on your record but no fine.
You can not data-Q a warning either.TX2Day, Flat Earth Trucker, Concorde and 1 other person Thank this. -
I honestly can’t answer with any certainty. Was it a dot inspection report? If it was I think it’ll show up on your psp.
Wait for someone else to chime in because I can’t really tell by the image you posted.Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
Yes this one definitely needs one we have a couple trailers that do.
It was not on a DOT inspection report.Concorde and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
Looked up this video for you. Hope it helps.Concorde Thanks this. -
No it does not. Unless you were to receive an inspection.Last edited: Jul 19, 2024
