I have the same problem. Hub also feels hot to touch. I am totally convinced, that axle flange seal has been leaking. Now it has run out of oil. Boss is refusing to get it repaired. He says show me something and I will get it repaired. My point is that if the hub ran out of oil, there is nothing to show. Oil level in the diffs is not coming down. It is full. What should I be doing ?
-
Hubs and diff share the same oil. If the diff's full there should be oil in the hub.
How much hotter is that hub in relation to the others? Possibly a dragging brake creating heat? -
You cannot put your hand on it and hold it. All other 3 hubs are OK. My infrared thermometer is at home and when I go back home, I will be recording temperatures.
Freightliner manual said that the truck has to be tilted and held in tilted position for 1 minute and 3 times, only then will oil flow from Diff to Hub. This has not been done.
I did open the fill plug, to check Oil in the hub. I put some oil in it, but not sure how much to put in. I might have spilled some or it just leaked out, kinda making a mess on the ground. So i stopped.
Thank you so much for reaching out and trying to help.
