Some are still active but the buffets are gone, the menu is significantly shorter and most of them aren’t open 24 hours anymore like they were previously (some call it a day at 9:00 pm).
And their numbers are fading fast!austinmike, Flat Earth Trucker and navypoppop Thank this. -
All the Flying J restaurants were converted into Dennys which is a joke. Mostly all the TA Country Pride and Petro Iron Skillets were closed during Covid and after the pandemic restrictions were lifted a lot of them remained closed. Some were then changed to IHOP which leaves most still closed today.austinmike, Numb, Flat Earth Trucker and 2 others Thank this.

At least the one in NM still has the liquor store.
Bought the only #### good thing to do sitting on a load there. -
A lot of TA's and Petro's are converting their restaurants to Black Bear Diners.
austinmike, navypoppop, Flat Earth Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yes some have changed. I have never been to a Black Bear but have heard that they are pricey.austinmike Thanks this.

Flying J used to cater to the O/O's. parking a company truck in amongst the large cars made ya feel like a rookie. lol
Williams was my favorite if a mom and pop wasn't aroundaustinmike and navypoppop Thank this. -
The takeover of Williams Truck Stops was yet another blunder by Pilot like Flying J. Any time Pilot takes over a good truck stop chain or Mom and Pop truck stop they totally destroy the history of it and take away the great reasons that we all used to stop for. Anther example was the truck stop at Halladay, Tn. Buy it, level it and be sure to remove the sit down restaurant for a crappy Pilot fast food Haven. No thanks for me.
austinmike, kemosabi49, mjd4277 and 1 other person Thank this. -
If drivers sat down to eat in restaurants as much as they claim they want to then the truckstop would notice a drop in revenue once the restaurant was gone. But the majority of the time the restaurant is closed because the money isn’t there to keep it open.
A couple months ago I went in to Iowa 80 to eat because I hadn’t in a while. Between the guys at the counter trying to tell a bigger story than the others and the subpar pork chops and cold potatoes I was reminded why I’d rather have my own food in my truck and keep the $30 in my pocket.88 Alpha, JC1971, austinmike and 2 others Thank this. -
There have been exceptions to that rule.
Take the Tennessean off of I-65 for example.
After the fire all but gutted it,it was rebuilt and better than ever. And it’s still hopping!Lite bug, navypoppop and Numb Thank this.
