On the back issue...most companies will shy away from anybody with back problems. If I was you, I wouldn't mention it at all if possible, because that is one thing that would bar you from trucking-forever.

FIND THE JOB YOU WANT BEFORE GOING TO CDL SCHOOL.
Industry is very slow. THERE IS NO DRIVER SHORTAGE.

Finish that college degree, 1st -- THEN go into trucking.

The CDL job market may well have improved by then (it really sux now).

Finish college, find the job, go to CDL school that your 1st employer prefers. Make sure it is at least 160 hours of instruction.

Beating down the highway for 600 mi won't feel that good on your back as well as climbing in and out of the drivers seat or under neath the trailer to look at something or climbing into the trailer from the pavement. (doesn't happen too often, but it's a big step) Another thing, co says "no touch freight" but you may not have to break down any pallets, but you could have to get them off the trailer with a hand pallet jack, 2000 lbs per pallet. On a reefer floor, can you say "oow, my back" ? Do more research......
