Hey all, I am wanting to get into team truck driving eventually. My wife is going to training at DS soon and once we get the money saved up, we might look into getting our own truck so I can have modifications made since I am disabled.
My question is do yall think this would be possible with me having no experience except a school ( thinking about asking DS if I could use my own truck for their training) and if so, which company would be good to get leased in with to do team?
Thanks

Depending on the disability you may want to take a dot physical and make sure you can drive commercially with that disability. Also there is another thread on here can not remember which one but you can look through the FMCA's regulations . May be able to do a search on here under disability and see. I'd hate to see you buy a truck then not be able to use it .

Good idea.. where would I need to go to get a DOT physical and how much do you think it would cost?
-
usually the school you go to will get one for ya or you can call pretty much any family physican just ask if they do dot physicals. or occupational health if you have that will i know.

ok, thanks.. and the other question I have would be is there decent money to be made out there right now for team drivers that lease on with companies as long as they keep the wheels rollin?

I sure wouldn't go to your family doctor to get this very important first physical. Way too many of these family docs will give folks a pass who really are NOT qualified, because they don't want to make their patients angry.
It would really suck to have your family doctor give you a medical card, pay all that money to a school and then fail their physical. Or worse still, get through the school (they don't want to turn students away,) get out looking for a job and not be able to pass a company "prehire" physical. -
Speaking about physicals, I recently had surgery for a bulging disc on Feb 3rd. I'm doing great, and I'm working out everyday. I happened to glance at my DOT physical long form and the first question is, Any illness or injury in the last 5 yrs. It hit me like a brick in the face. I thought to myself, I may not be able to even get a driving job, because now I have to show on the long form that I had surgery. Anyone know of someone that had a similar problem and was successful at getting a driving job ?

Thanks for the help so far guys!! One thing is for #### sure... I wont give up on my dreams until I've used up all my resources.. The disability is spinabifida, but I've talked with several truckers who say that if I keep a level head and stay determined, then things will work out.. It's kinda funny really, I saw a big rig headed through town today and thought to myself "I wanna drive one of those!!"..

One thing you have to remember is your medical history is YOUR OWN BUSINESS.
If you do not plan on the previous situation being claimed on the new companies workers comp, ignore it. A company can never find out about a non-work related situation. Unless you sign a specific letter to your private physician, giving release to speak about your medical history...it will not be an issue. (NO company I have ever seen tries to get into your personal doc, unless there is some concern about previous heart attack that you disclose or previous serious condition.)The Challenger Thanks this.
