I have been driving trucks since 1987, with a solid 15-17 years of experience as a company driver and owner operator, and over 1.5 million accident free miles. I have been off the road for the last eleven years working as a Coast Guard licensed yacht captain. I want to get back on the road and am actively shopping for a new (used) truck. I am also repeatedly running up against the “recent experience” roadblock. Can anyone advise me on companies that might consider hiring me on my actual experience and merit?
Experienced O/O wanting to lease on after extended hiatus.

What is your location?
A zip code would be a big help.

If you are in CA you cannot lease on to anyone. Just a FYI. AB5

Thanks, you’re right. I’m in the process of relocating to Texas, 78639. But being as I have been traveling abroad full time and just moving my life back onshore, I can locate anywhere.Last edited: Aug 4, 2024

In the process of relocating to Texas. I do see several companies hiring owner ops out of CA. but maybe own authority drivers. I’ll have to check into how that law actually works in this case. It was my understanding it just prohibits calling employees ICs to avoid taxes and benefits. Legit contractors in all fields still exist in CA, but now you’ve got my curiosity up.Last edited: Aug 4, 2024

You can lease on but you can't haul loads that originate in CA. Can deliver into CA from out of state but have to deadhead out for the next load. Kinda impractical.BlueThunderr and Siinman Thank this.
