The megas are what will block you.
They want recent driving experience in the snow. And be able to sit and drive for 11 hours.

I don't how you all do it though.

    Look for local companies.

That's the policy at Landstar for California BOC's

What type(s) of freight do you later intend to pursue? What CDL endorsements (if any) do you have?

I thought they stopped taking CA residents because of AB5 but I could be wrong.

I’ve noticed several companies hiring nationwide have omitted CA, and a couple FL as well, possibly because there’s nothing ever coming out of there.

I think the hiring CA residents causes to many issues with Pay. They may have to follow CA laws and I don't think many care to deal with the extra BS that comes with it. Gonna guess FL is because of low freight unless based out of FL or GA they may have some contracts.

There's gotta be something coming out of cali. With all the ports offloading cargo ships. And all the crops from farmers.

There is a lot coming out of California.

All that has to be done for domestic (in California) owners is to add the additional layer to their operation, making the driver-owner an employee. Foreign entities like me, AB5 isn’t an issue thanks to the ICC clause of the constitution.

I'm with Landstar. I live in CA. When the supreme court refused to hear the appeal on AB5 making it law, California bco's had to sign new contracts that reflects the policy. While it was in appeals or stayed by the court we were free to do whatever.
