I work for a company in Chicago as owner operator and later things went from bed to worse, they pay only like 3 of 4 weekly settlements in a month and now owe me over 6 weeks of salary worth over 20k- what should I do?
Company hasn't paid my last 6 weekly statement

Stop working for free. Seems you did not learn your lesson when they didn't pay right away. Might be able to get a lawyer and chase the money in court but you are gonna be waiting for them to pay. Chicago is a bad area to work for those bad companies seem to be everywhere. Good luck!

Call your lawyer and have him move to take this to court, naming the owners and the employees who handle payroll.Siinman, TheLoadOut and AlexRider3 Thank this.

Pick up a load and hold it hostage. Freight volume has been down quite a bit for the past 3 weeks or so, company might be racking up cash and preparing to go under while screwing drivers and brokers. 20k is a decent amount of money, I’d do everything I could to get it back. Legally or illegally.
AlexRider3, 77fib77, W923 and 2 others Thank this. -
Wow, 20k is a lot to be owed. I’m not an expert, but i think you should definitely stop working for them immediately. Have you considered contacting the labor board? They might be able to help.
AlexRider3 Thanks this. -
Try it and tell us how it works out for you.
the carrier can charge you a lot more than the value of the load you steal.Siinman, Short Fuse EOD and OlegMel Thank this. -
I’ve done that with broker who tried screwing me. I parked the truck at the receiver and made it clear straps aren’t coming off until a new rate con is sent. I let the receiver know what’s going on as well, that way they don’t think I’m trying to run off with their load. Obviously don’t try to take the load hostage at home or truck stop, but do it in a manner where driver won’t get into legal problems.
