Someone will correct me if i'm wrong. You also have to worry about local laws when you talk about concealed carry permits.

If you're in a national park, military reservation, Indian reservation (I think), a school zone (some states), any federal property, the permit is nullified. You can be charged with carrying a concealed weapon. In any state that doesn't have an agreement with your permit's issuing state, the permit is worthless. If you're on a military base, you are so screwed... federal felony charges. If you're driving interstate, on federal park lands, on federal/government lands, packing is a real bad idea. Local laws aren't the issue, it's federal and state that will nail you.

So can we saftley say that for the drivers who usually DO carry a knife ON the hip, that you have not been hassled by authorities or DOT? :biggrin_255:The hell with the morons that want to be an idiot and F&^% with you, a quick drop to the ground and cut the achiles tendon and their not gonna be any problem for anyone else!:biggrin_25510: (Thats the only thing holding your leg muscle from being pulled to the small of your back......owe.:biggrin_2554:)

In almost all states, the maximum length of blade on a carry knife is 3.5" anything else is asking for trouble. I carry my folding Spyderco with me at all times, kinda like AMEX, "I never leave home without it", regardless of if I'm in jeans and a t-shirt at work or in a tux. I also carry a Tanto Cold steel in the semi. It's clipped behind my seat, I used to have a bowie knife in the sleep as well.

The biggest thing to keep in mind, if you ever deliver to a prison, military base, or gov't facility, you must declare that you have these in the truck. Also, if your stopped by DOT/LEO and they ask to search your truck, you better declare to them that you have these as well.

When I ran Boston and NYC/Jersy out of Canada I used to run with a 12 inch Bowie strapped to the side of my driver's seat. Only once was I ever asked about it and my answer was "Your rest areas at night". Got a nod and "I don't blame you".

These days I carry a folding knife with a "ripper" style blade capiable of cutting thru hoses, etc with no problems.

Best be very careful with military and federal facilities in that you fully know the laws concerning weapons of any type. Once you are on federal property, it will be too late!!!
Ignorance of the law is not a usable defense. Just a retainer fee for a lawyer to appear in a federal court will run $5-6G, to start. A federal felony weapon conviction will net you quality time at club fed more then likely.

Some states if you have a permit to pack you shouldn't declare the weapon, and in some you're required to. Weapon laws vary by state, and all state laws are superseded by federal laws when on federal lands.

If you feel you need a weaponto go somewhere, you should not go there. It's man's big brain that makes him formidable, but only if he uses it.

I have no experience with it, due to I don't have to leave the state, but unless you have a dedicated route in which you only pass through states that abide by your concealed carry permit, I also wouldnt risk it. I carry everyday, and I would'nt do it in any state where I knew I would get into trouble if I were caught. I also am not allowed to carry during work, company policy.
