Got safety termination from schneider

Try for a yard jockey job with a company that run there own trucks ie grocery,LTL like Estes Siai or like food service companies run the yard job and most likely move to driving when company becomes comfortable with you.Personally that’s how I started driving never went to trucking school

 

But the thing is, a high hook is so easy to avoid.

If I don't see and feel the trailer ramp up onto the fifth wheel, I get out and look.

 

Throw her in reverse, floor it and don’t look back. Hit the pin so hard it echoes thru the valley for miles. That is the only way to hook. Seriously. Don’t do that.

 

I can understand the high hook deal, but 3 major accidents, sorry young man, but i dont think trucking is right for you. Come on, you were not taught right. Find a job in a yard, spotting, thats where you should have been in the beginning. I hope you get your act together in the future. But right now, i would not hire you, way too dangerous on the road. Give it some time and thought , and good luck.

 

I think you should challenge your unemployment; you didn't "violate company policy", you were simply incompetent. Violation of company policy suggests malicious intent, whereas just being a moron does not and therefore makes you eligible for unemployment. Just go back to the unemployment office and plead your case of stupidity and you'll get your money!

I've worked for Schneider for almost the last 20 years, their coupling policy was changed by one incident, that happened I believe in 1988.

A driver, doesn't matter rookie or not, high hooked and the trailer stayed on till he got on the interstate, maybe 4 miles.

Trailer came off the 5 wheel and slammed into a minivan, killing a family of 4 at 8am.

Don Schneider rewrote company policy on hooking trailers. Drivers WILL STOP BEFORE hitting the fifth wheel, and Inspect alignment, fifth wheel height, and verification of trailer brakes locked before coupling.

This requires to GOAL before coupling, then couple, and then verify with a company provided flashlight both jaws are closed around kingpin.

Don't BS this board that Schneider didn't mention it to you. It is about 2 days worth of Training in Schneider's orientation course.

I have no problems saying, if you high hooked, and got caught without killing anyone because you can't follow the rules, I'm glad.

Otherwise, you might be looking at 4 counts of manslaughter and life in prison.

If a company has a policy that a task must be done a certain way, warns of the dangers of failing to follow said policy, and states that any incident that results from not following the policy is grounds for termination- unemployment is not an option.
