One of the nice things about working for a small company, that sort of listens to driver input, is the ability to disable certain things. My boss changed the parameters on my adaptive cruise to the minimum setting for distance, but the darn thing will still randomly brake (it's scared to death of the Johnson/Eisenhower tunnel and wants to brake halfway through), he's turned off all the beeps, dings and buzzers, with a couple of exceptions that can't be turned off. That's on the Kenworth's, because he has the software from KW. Our new Freightliners, the software they sold him, while the trucks are under warranty, won't allow him to do any of that, he has to request from Freightliner they do it when the truck was in for warranty work. Even then, they changed some things, but not others and said that it's factory programmed and can't be changed without engineering approval.

My company doesn't set it to where it goes off for every little thing tho.
I was involved in a wreck a couple months back where a guy ran a stop sign and hit me right on my drive tired.. and was able to show the cops the video and my seat belt was on and I wasn't on my phone or any distractions, because the tard that hit me tried to blame it on me.. the camera proved he was a lying scumbagbroke down plumber, Arctic_fox, Numb and 3 others Thank this. -
More and more I’m noticing that trucking doesn’t have the freedom aspect or allure it once had. The rest of the operating procedures finally caught up to us, and we have 3 choices:
Put up with things you don’t agree with, and become miserable and dead inside, hating and dreading to go to work everyday like a lot of people.
Saving up, buying a decent used truck and leasing onto a decent carrier (Landstar etc). Which will allow you to maintain some of your autonomy while driving (still gotta follow company regulations like anywhere else which is ok)
quit the industry all together. Which I have tried a few times and I always end up coming back.
Its sad to see the freedom of the open road being destroyed by micromanaging, dacronian rules.
Land of the free, no more.
But hey, at least we are not this bad. It could still be worse lol

the camera is just not the hill I'm willing to die on.. I don't think there's much little ol me or you could do at the end of the day , most if not all companies have cameras of some kind. I have even put one in my personal carbroke down plumber, hope not dumb twucker and CorsairFanboy Thank this. -

Everything has tradeoffs.
If multiple systems are linked together perhaps Elogs, navigation, MPG and fuel status then your nav system could alert to traffic delays due to accidents and suggest an early stop if the upcoming rest area shows availability.
Add in fuel pricing to optimize stops for the best price.
Of course this would mean skynet knows all this about you and others. Not like it isn't already being tracked though.broke down plumber Thanks this.
