Lucky man to have a nice girl come into your life and be able to truck drive, make decent money, and have a relationship where they don't run off because you're never around.
Myself, I also found the sweetest little thing too. A 2 liter sized bottle of zzzquil. I cuddle up to her every night. Don't tell my DOT physical guy though. To him she's Zoey, not zzzquil.

My favorite run leaves at 7pm and gets back by 3am but it gets canceled too often.
I got burned too many times on that bid by sleeping from 4a-noon, then later getting a call telling me I have to take a 9pm run that doesn’t usually get back before 8am.hope not dumb twucker, Speed_Drums, MACK E-6 and 2 others Thank this. -
I just started nights. The first two weeks are probably the worse, but it’s not bad as long as you get 7-8 hours of sleep.

Plenty of sleep initially is critical if your typical work/rest cycle gets inverted. Those hours driving are typically when you would be asleep.
One of the worst parts about working overnight linehaul was when you got to your assigned days off. You either had to reinvert your sleep cycle, or maintain it and miss out on the little social scene that life gave you.
I think most of us bite the bullet and temporarily reinvert the sleep cycle so we pursuit some hobbies or personal relationships to keep us sane. It actually worked out fine cause my girlfriend at the time (now wife) lived over an hour away and our weekends were a long enough distraction from the professional ife before the next work week kicked off.
But most arrangements can only accommodate so many circumstances for so long; so when she moved in, I asked for a transfer. Now we have two dogs and two kids and there is no way I could ceede my personal life and go back to overnights.Speed_Drums, Lumper Humper and MACK E-6 Thank this. -
I found adjusting the sleep schedule pretty easy, but adjusting the eating schedule much harder. Psychologically, I don't want to eat at 2300-0100, and I only want a little nosh for breakfast at 0700, but then I wake up at noon starving. Once I started making myself have a 'small dinner', then midnight lunch, and a big breakfast things got easier.Lumper Humper Thanks this.

My sleep schedule on the weekend is what I struggle with. I try to maintain a consistent schedule but I’m getting bummed out from a lack of life outside of work. I flip it every once in a while, maybe I need to do it more.road_runner Thanks this.

I would keep an eye on that schedule. I remember that I was home almost every morning and off on weekends but all I would do is sleep. On the days I was off I would run to the store, buy groceries for the week and be awake long enough to pay all of my bills and go to sleep.
My only hobby that I stated was brewing beer at home. But even that was only a 6-8 hour process, followed by four weeks of waiting until it was ready to bottle. Things can get super depressing if all you do is work and pay your bills. Worst yet, "normal" life around you will start to seem like an annoyance. Like, why are there so many people out here? Why are the lines so long? Why is it so noisy constantly?
Family, friends, and health. Those are the things that matter in life. Everything else that people think is so valuable will one day sit in their garage; boxed up, collecting dust.MACK E-6, Lumper Humper, Someguywithquestions and 3 others Thank this. -
Things like this here give me another reason to be glad I’m not at XPO anymore. No idea if he was told to go, or “had” to go. I know I wouldn’t have left the barn unless I knew everything was clear and good to go. Hopefully the driver made it out, this was in one of the Wyoming messes this past week.
I showed my current boss at CCFS this, and told that we won’t go anywhere if it’s a mess like that, or if it looks the weather is gonna take a turn. He also said that if I’m out and it goes to crap, to turn right around and come back. Period.
Stay safe everyone.Attached Files:
