Signing my log book

    There ya go, its just common sense. The DOT man could care less if you have signed it or not when it comes to writing you up. Violations are violations. I have heard guys spout off before about them not signing so they couldn't write him up, I have yet to hear of anybody getting out of a logbook violation because it wasn't signed.

    Legible? If I sign my name as the letter X, that's a valid signature. You cant show me anywhere it says it has to be legible lol. Anything and everything else may have to be legible on the logbook, but not the signature, although if push comes to shove it better match the sig on your CDL.

    I have a "signature" line on my logbook. I keep my logbook curent--everytime I stop, I update my log, but I only sign it at the end of the day, before I go to bed and the logbook is completed.

    So when a DOT officer inspects my logbook, he sees that it is curent and legal, but the "signature" line is blank.

    Well maybe that's a law that needs to be changed. I re-wrote my reply in order to help someone, thinking that maybe I'm not being clear.

    It is referenced to the comment that is on the post on page 1. It is the one that is not clear.

    There is actually a law for signing the logbook at the end of the day. It is 395.8. In order to satisfy this requirement, the day must be over and the entire log completed.

    (f)(7) Signature/certification. The driver shall certify to the correctness of all entries by signing the form containing the driver's duty status record with his/her legal name or name of record. The driver's signature certifies that all entries required by this section made by the driver are true and correct.

    I only sign mine at the end of the day and never had a problem. But when you go into Canada you have to sign it at the beginning of the day.
