Can’t find a job

Second...develop a thick skin for this forum, or any other forum. Same goes with trucking in general.

Your going to get all takes, whether you want them or not. Getting upset, and firing back isn't going to change anything, but end up with folks taking a vacation, including you. Like 88Alpha said, put him on ignore if you don't want to see his posts. I might not always agree with @tscottme (or others) posts/posting style, but the man has advice that could be useful. Same goes for @Ridgeline . Neither pull punches, and neither sugar coat their thoughts, but they still have plenty of wisdom to share, if folks asking questions would just listen and stop getting defensive. This isn't just for the OP either, but to all the new folks who come on here asking questions.

Develop that thick skin or your going to be hating life here and on the road. If you think these guys are bad, wait till your in a truck stop with the various folks who also drive. You think his comment was bad? It only gets worse in the real world. There are no mods or ignore options on the ol'CB or standing around the rest area/TS/where ever other people are.

An finally..BandG gave you some solid advice. Listen to him/them. Him and many others here want to help you, and see you succeed. The majority of the folks here want to help you, don't let thin skin stop that from happening.

As for me...I'm just here to give these folks a laugh or two, and to push my taco propaganda. I'm not very helpful unless you need a laugh or a smart comment or 20.

You gotta get your foot in the door somewhere. Nobody come out making big bucks their first year. You gotta get experience. I started there in 2010. It wasn't good cpm then either, but I had a decent dispatcher and was able to do ok and get experience. It isn't a new driver's market so you gotta take what you can get til you get experience. Combine that with the fact that you dont think you can pass a hair follicle test, your options will be limited. At least if you get started, it give you more time to get your system all the way clean while you earn some money. The pay may not be high, but its better nothing. If Western or Stevens Transport will take you, go for it.

 

They probably told him that because they always have an influx of van drivers and never enough flatbed drivers. It was the same thing when I started. The van guys had to wait on trucks and the flatbed guys were able to start working immediately.

 

It's worth it because you get experience. Experience in trucking is more valuable than money. That's because you can't get to the good paying jobs without experience.

 

When I worked at Western doing flatbed, I made 29 cents per mile. That was 2010. Also, you don't need to listen to your friend. Your friend says it ain't worth it, but he did work there anyway, and he gained some experience. Now he's moved on to other opportunities I'm sure. It's not about the cpm, it's more about the freight and your dispatcher. If your dispatcher is a good one, you'll make decent cash, even at 47 cpm. You ain't going to see 55 to 60 cpm til you get experience.

 

This is foul man. It feels like unnecessary disrespect.
