Stopping on the shoulder of the interstate kills appx 4000 people per year, in the USA alone, per some NHTSA estimates.
As a current OTR driver, at night when there is 50% less traffic, I will change lanes appx 20-25 times for a semi stopped on the shoulder per night, here in the midwest. I always change lanes, cause idiots don't look in their mirror and just pull out on you.
Most drivers are taking a piss, a 30, a phone call, etc. They ain't broke down. Find an exit ramp more suitable where you aren't gonna hurt a sleepy driver who runs into you parked on the side, triangles or not.
Schneider has always had a no ramp, no parking policy unless legit can't move the truck. Just last week they announced the GPS software will alert if on the side of the road for more than 5 minutes. AT 10 minutes they will be calling to diagnose the problem and make sure your cones are out, and what repairs you need. NO more sleeping on ramps if your tired at 3 am, you should have trip planned better.dunchues, kylefitzy, Albertaflatbed and 2 others Thank this. -

Pulling over to check the truck after hitting the debris is what screwed you. Should have picked a safe place. Anyway, WE did you a favor and hopefully taught you a solid lesson. Depending on where you live i bet you can find a decent local job that pays better and doesn't keep you trapped in prison cell on wheels.

Too bad you couldn’t figure out how dangerous it is to be on the shoulder for no reason. Now you learn the hard way..good luck -
This is the stupid crap that I and I’m sure a great deal of others are tired of out here. Brain dead drivers that don’t belong out here.gentleroger Thanks this.
