Years ago US 78 went right up thru Athens (and still does as Bus 78/E.Broad St.) . There was a statue at a crossing with a traffic light. U of GA off to the right, strip of shops, restaurants and movie houses strung along a block each way to the left. During daylight hours say 7 to 5, there was a steady stream of those smooth skinned GA peaches strolling in clusters up across the light, and to the attraction on the left.
There was never a truck that made that light,and it was a long light to allow the pedestrian flow. I have been 4th in a convoy of Riddell's cotton haulers to miss that light.
And it you crossed on green real slow, the girls would sorta cluster there for it to change.

 

Back before hawks were protected we had one attack Mama's chicken yard. So Daddy dug a post hole about 50 feet off from the fence, leaving a good view for the hawk. Nailed the bottom part of steel trap's spring to one end of a 16' 4 x 4. Set the pole in the hole loose with the set trap on top.
2nd day had the hawk trapped, shot thru head with a 22, let him hang rest of day. Next day pull pole, bury hawk. Left trap for future use.
Do not recall ever getting another. 6 kids, 2 parents, 1 aunt to feed. Fried chicken for 9 would still trump protection laws....

 

4.3 is a V-6 in my truck.

 

And thoroughly cooked. You don't find that degrees of doneness usually, a rare find.... Joke aside, I have seen bacon that wept grease on the plate...
