I've been cited for not having vehicle registration present in a vehicle and it was nowhere near a moving violation; just a simple fine was all.

I can’t believe that not having a registration is a moving violation, it goes against the definition of a moving violation which is safety related. There’s no way.

If the tags and registration on my car is suspended can I still use my CDL for work?

It was suspended for lack of insurance.

Didn't see your other post, no if it is suspended.

My question is this - does the state require insurance on all vehicles you own but not going to drive?

Yes. Park the unregistered car & keep it off the street until it is registered.

Ask your state to get the answer that matters. In my state car registration doesn't usually risk your DL or CDL. Other states may have different rules.

You should be able to find an answer from your state on the state web site or an internet search.

    It’s all very state specific

in my state if you cancel the insurance on a car but don’t cancel the license plate , the state suspends your drivers license because they assume you are now driving the car with no insurance .

My state has a database with th e insurance companies of VIN numbers and if you cancel the insurance on your car the ins company updates that in the state database in a few hours .
