They want to catch you with your pants down not ready and prepared for inspection, that just defeats the purpose of inspections
-
Maybe it is a new regulation but no one seems to know about it.
So I would contact this person seeing you are out of California - Lt. Brian Cocagne CHP brcocagne@chp.ca.gov
Or this one - kerri.wirachowsky@cvsa.org
I assume you are the fleet manager or owner, so you talk to them. Drivers talk to the enforcement officers when they are inspected.Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
Maybe hold onto that return lane for just a bit

The other side of that coin is before you go into any inspection you'll make sure everything is tip top. That means safer trucks on the road. In my opinion they should be happy to do at least one voluntary inspection per fleet to keep them in the system and insure the truck is good. I say only one because you don't want someone gaming the system by getting 3 or 4 clean inspections real quick then letting everything go to hell because they know a bad one wont make their OOS percentage look too bad.

Do you know any sheriff deputies in your area. Ask one if they have a dot certified deputy and if they would inspect your truck. Ask nicely and use tact. I have gotten a few by asking. Ask every day. Ask three times a day. Don’t stop till you’re successful. I have been told no and just pleaded that I am desperate and am trying to do the right thing. I was then offered a level 3. Temporary roadside scale events are your best chance other than asking a deputy. If need be visit your local state police office and plead your case with the desk Sgt. Ask if you can talk to a dot certified officer. Volunteer your truck to be the test subject of the next dot inspection training session. You will eventually succeed if you make it the most important thing in your life. Never give up and you will be surprised of all the accomplishments you will do in life.

hope not dumb twucker Thanks this. -
@sonnyca You said that you are a new trucking company. Have you already had your "new entrant audit?" If so, you might reach out to your auditor for more clarity on this supposed new regulation. If not, simply ask the auditor when they conduct your audit.
Also, it has been my experience that the first time in a calendar year a truck enters CO (particularly at Lamar) the scalemaster will ask the driver to park and come inside to verify the cab card. Perhaps your drivers could ask for an inspection at that time. And since NM is usually pretty diligent about checking their state fuel tax credential at their POEs, your drivers might use that as an opportunity to request an inspection as well.Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
Do your DOT inspections quarterly at a reputable shop or facility. Find a municipality that has their own CMV enforcement unit and see if they will inspect

Good idea

Take 5 one hundred dollar bills and show it to your drivers. Tell them the first one to get an inspection gets the $500. The second person gets $50. Third gets a set of steak knives.
You'll get results.
