they will ask for your tax records, so it doesnt matter what u tell them, if your tax preparer lists you as unemplyed then you are most likely screwed, same as me. If you figure something out let me know as well.

I have never heard of the DMV needing a copy of your taxes in order to test you or to issue a CDL. An employment verification is a standard form that is usually faxed to the employers that you list. You would have to provide some proof of employment. Just one employer verifying would help. Tell your HR representative about your misc construction work and they should work with you to get the verifications. Best of Luck!

They aren't talking about the DMV asking for the tax records...the prospective employer is.

Now I have seen this being stated on several different threads now...the only reason I could think of that any prospective employer would want tax records would be to verify income to be sure the new hire will qualify for a student loan for the school. Maybe for some other Federal credit to the employer for hiring an unemployed worker who has been unemployed for over 26 weeks...otherwise, it is none of their business as to your tax records.

My employer wanted a Social Security report, because I worked for myself also. Mine wanted a 10 year report though.

Here in Nevada it was 39 bucks for 10 years. I never did it, I put down my DBA name, and my phone number they can call me if they want to I will vouch for myself, no problem.....seriously

I guess it is how bad a person needs a job, but I am not showing my tax records to anyone. Talk about invasion of privacy. Next thing a prospective employed will ask you for is your "bedroom record". No thank you, I don't need a job that bad.

My sentiment EXACTLY. Tax records revealed to a company that may or not hire you but has all your private information. Thats just great. When I drove 30 years back, life was a whole lot better in this country. I will go ahead and go to school to get my license back but I don't know about getting a job trucking because I have a family and a farm and do not want to live on a highway. :biggrin_2551:

You can have someone who worked with you on those side jobs write a letter witnessing that you worked during that time.
Usually, the only reason they want tax forms is to see if you left a place after being a REALLY bad employee.
They will ask for tax forms if you say you have been self employed.

If you are new and you are making your past up as you go along, make sure you write it down and stick to the same story! There is nothing like getting caught by slinging BS, then working in the industry for a couple of years...going back to a company and filling out an application, only to find you did it two years earlier and now the two apps do not match. Instant thumbs down.
If you are going crooked, do it smart at least.
